The Senior Inbound Material Planner is a strategic, plant-integrated supply chain leader responsible for end-to-end ownership of inbound raw material planning, execution, and system enablement across multiple manufacturing sites. This role combines deep plant operations expertise with advanced planning capabilities to optimize material flow, inventory strategy, and ERP system utilization.
This position is uniquely critical in bridging corporate supply chain strategy with real-time plant execution. Leveraging firsthand experience in plant operations including B&F Management. The Senior Planner will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of material forecasting, MRP functionality, and SAP-based ordering processes.
As a key driver of transformation, this role will serve as the primary change agent for inbound material planning standardization across the network, ensuring practical, plant-aligned solutions that are scalable, efficient, and sustainable. The Senior Planner will also take on a broader and more complex material scope than peers, including high-variability and strategic materials such as cullet.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Material Planning & MRP Enablement:
- Co-lead the implementation and optimization of SAP-based material forecasting and automated order placement (MRP) across the network.
- Translate plant-level operational realities into system design requirements to ensure accurate planning parameters (lead times, consumption rates, safety stock, etc.).
- End-to-End Material Ownership:
- Manage demand planning, order placement, and scheduling alignment for inbound materials across multiple plants.
- Serve as subject matter expert for raw material receiving and consumption across the network.
- Oversee complex material categories (e.g., cullet), including supply balancing, demand shaping, and supplier collaboration.
- Drive proactive decision-making to maintain optimal inventory days’ supply while mitigating risk of shortages or excess.
- Plant Partnership & Change Management
- Serve as the primary bridge between corporate supply chain and plant operations, ensuring alignment, credibility, and trust across stakeholders.
- Leverage firsthand plant experience and established relationships with suppliers and carriers to proactively manage supply risks, influence performance, and resolve constraints.
- Lead the onboarding of plants into standardized inbound planning processes and SAP/MRP adoption, ensuring solutions are practical and aligned with real-world operations.
- Provide guidance and challenge plant assumptions regarding material demand, usage, and constraints based on data and operational insight.
- Advanced Inventory & Supply Optimization
- Partner with global teams to develop and refine inventory strategies, such as safety stock, that account for plant consumption variability, furnace operations, and raw material constraints.
- Continuously optimize inbound logistics, including rail/truck scheduling, to minimize total landed cost and operational disruption.
- Cross-Functional Expertise & Team Development
- Mentor and upskill other planners by sharing deep knowledge of plant operations, material consumption, and physical process constraints.
- Provide subject matter expertise on furnace operations, batch processes, and material flow complexities to enhance team decision-making.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in purchasing, transportation management, supply chain management, and glass furnace operations (required).
- Experience in SAP or another ERP software (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
