Job Description

The Associate Financial analyst reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Associate Financial analyst, under the direction of the Program Director or Department Administrator, is responsible for recording transactions, performing analysis activities, and evaluating trends and drivers within the Department. The position will also be charged with the preparation and some review activities related to the month end close process, as well as support for the annual financial close. The analyst will need to understand complex financial concepts in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile financial data, research discrepancies, and maintain organized documentation to support monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
  • Process and track vendor invoices, ensuring timely payment and resolving invoice discrepancies by working with vendors and internal divisions.
  • Assist with provider payment activities, including processing ad hoc payments and reimbursements and verifying supporting documentation for accuracy. 
  • Prepare and process financial transactions, including journal entries and corrections, while maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Assist in the preparation of the departmental budgets, monitor the activity and balances of departmental accounts throughout the year, and interpret financial data to inform decision making. 
  • Provide support and analysis by querying appropriate data, preparing reports, and utilizing independent critical thinking to provide detailed observations and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Utilize Peoplesoft and Microsoft Office Suite to enter, track and analyze financial information, prepare routine reports and invoices, and support financial operations in a high complexity environment.
  • Must be self-directed and able to handle multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Will work independently but must be able to function on teams and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues.

Qualifications

Education

  • Degree in Finance/Accounting or related field

Experience

  • One (1) or more years of relevant experience, including internships, academic projects or equivalent
  • Understanding of advanced accounting concepts
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 

Preferred:

  • Experience working with PeopleSoft General Ledger software
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and analytical skills in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of precision and attention to detail

Schedule:

Monday- Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
