Job Description
The CT Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
- Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.
- Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
- Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
- Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).
- Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
- Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.
- Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.
- Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
- Consistently upholds all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, Infection prevention measures safe practices (as applicable to the role) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members
- Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery
- Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth
- Supports additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs
- Verifies orders and confirms protocol.
- Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table.
- Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately and uses ALARA principles during examinations.
- Assures patient, staff and personal safety by adhering to established standards including positively confirming Right Patient and Right Exam.
- Establishes IV access for contrast administration and related lab draws.
- Administers contrast media oral and/or IV contrast in accordance with department policies and procedures, patient history indicators, exam protocols and physician orders and follows through with post exam instructions.
- Prepares for and assists the physician in computed tomography procedures, including interventional procedures.
- Enters data such as type of scan, slice thickness, scan time and other technical data into computer.
- Communicates with patient before and during procedure; monitors safety, comfort.
- Validates that all required series, images, protocols and reconstructions are complete and meet established image quality standards.
- Assures complete study transfer to PACS for radiologist interpretation.
- Performs CT equipment QA and maintains required logs.
- Performs clerical tasks such as receiving orders, scheduling patients, and recordkeeping.
- Maintains and cleans work area and equipment; replenishes supplies as needed
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Computed Tomography (CT) within six months of hire
- Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Accreditation within six months of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred:
- 1 year experience
