Job Description
The EMS Educator reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The EMS Educator coordinates educational programs offered to the pre-hospital care providers served by the McHenry Western Lake County EMS System, for the purpose of, initial licensure, licensure renewal, skill proficiency and professional growth. This role develops educational goals as identified through needs assessment of pre-hospital providers or as indicated as a results of Quality Improvement studies and National EMS Education Standards.
The EMS Educator coordinates education programs to include: room scheduling, curriculum design, assisting instructor scheduling, instructor evaluations, in accordance with program recognition expectations through the appropriate agencies (AHA, ACEP, IDPH, CoAEMSP etc.)
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with EMS Agency Leadership to assess the learning needs and competencies of newly licensed EMS providers.
- Designs, delivers, and assesses learning activities and curriculums related to clinical competencies, departmental/organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and the use of clinical information technologies.
- Serves as a consultant/mentor for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development, including the supervision of EMS students in the clinical environment (prehospital and hospital).
- Participates in the development, coordination, and delivery of educational programming.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing or Paramedic program.
- Current Illinois licensure: RN or Paramedic
- Bachelor's degree
- Five years of critical care experience and one year of teaching experience
- AHA CPR-Basic Life Support (BLS)- Instructor preferred
- AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)-Instructor preferred
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)-Instructor preferred
- IDPH Lead Instructor within one year of hire
Preferred:
- More than four years in course coordination
- Current IDPH EMS Lead Instructor
- AHA ACLS Instructor
- AHA BLS Instructor
- Certified BTLS - Instructor
- AHA PALS Instructor
