The Occupational Therapist PH Psychiatric reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

ASSESSMENT

• Assesses and records patient abilities and disabilities in daily living, taking into consideration the special needs and behaviors of the specific age of the unit population, including the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
• Assesses the patient and/or family to determine the signs and symptoms of chemical dependency, the degree of impact, the learning needs and responses and treatment alternatives.
• Organizes the assessment data, so that it is accurate, complete and accessible.
• Assesses patients home environment to begin discharge planning.
• Assesses ongoing O.T. treatment to provide continuity of care.
• Identifies problems that need immediate correction.

GOAL SETTING/PLANNING

• Initiates occupational therapy evaluation and treatment upon physician=s referral.
• Begins plans for discharge at the time of physician referral; consults with health team members.
• Arranges conferences with health care members when indicated to plan care.
• Identifies an occupational therapy plan of treatment

IMPLEMENTATION

• Effectively organizes and establishes priorities appropriate to the patient=s age, developmental needs and learning ability while rendering O.T. treatment.
• Gives direct treatment to assigned patients and assists with other patients when necessary.
• Provides teaching to the patient and/or family about chemical dependency and related problems.
• Participates in group sessions and educational seminars with chemically dependent patients to contribute to their recovery.
• Supervises treatment given by COTAs.
• Documents all assessments, interventions and patient response

EVALUATION

• Evaluates patient response to O.T. treatment, makes necessary changes in treatment and communicates changes.
  • a. Administers, scores and interprets Allen=s Cognitive Level Test.
  • b. Identifies and utilizes additional standardized testing instruments.
• Consults with physician regarding patients progress.
• Reviews medical record to keep updated on plan of care by other team members.
• Discusses the patient at interdisciplinary conferences for continuity of care.
• Reassesses occupational therapy treatment for effectiveness in achieving desired outcomes.

COMMUNICATION

• Communicates effectively with patients, their families, and various members of the health team.
• Promotes a harmonious working environment.
• Communicates patient information to Charge OTR and offers suggestions for improved patient treatment
• Collaborates with nursing in facilitating patient psycho educational groups.
• Provides input and guidance to other staff regarding Activity Therapy Groups.

Primarily 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 8-hour shifts, 64 hours per pay period. Every other holiday and every other weekend.

Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school.

Registration by the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Licensed as Registered Occupational Therapist by the State of Illinois.

Position requires OTR, and behavioral health and substance use experience.
