Job Description

Data Engineering at Nine empowers individuals to own delivery end-to-end, and explore how new data and the latest Data & AI technologies can improve workflows, and deliver greater value for our stakeholders.

We have a great opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Customer Data Platforms Squad.Your role will be instrumental in building and sustaining Nine's competitive advantage through data, as you'll focus on the full development and maintenance lifecycle of innovative data products. This critical work directly empowers our business to create unique, actionable insights, which are essential for driving strategy and maximising our ad revenue.

What you’ll do:

  • Data Engineering leadership in building our state-of-the-art Customer Data Platform.

  • Design and implement data models that align with business requirements and support efficient querying and analysis.

  • Design, develop and maintain data pipelines that extract, load and transform data from diverse sources into the data warehouses.

  • Ensure the pipelines are reliable, scalable, and efficient, considering factors including data volume, velocity, and variety.

  • Champion best practices for customer privacy and data security.

  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to maintain high standards of data accuracy.

  • Establish monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve technical issues.

  • Perform root cause analysis for incidents and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Contribute to the technical design and long term vision for the data platform.

  • Explore emerging AI technologies and methods to enhance value delivery across data engineering workflows.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Fluency in Python and proficiency in SQL for complex data manipulation.

  • Deep understanding of OLTP and OLAP concepts, including normalised schema and data model design.

  • Experience leading the design and construction of robust ETL pipelines and data infrastructure.

  • Expertise in workflow automation and managing task dependencies using Apache Airflow.

  • Proven ability to drive best practices and foster collaborative growth through peer-to-peer mentorship.

  • A strong analytical mindset with a passion for finding creative solutions to complex technical challenges.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Platform or other industry leading CDP.

  • Industry knowledge or fascination with the “hard problems” of digital identity.

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software/Data Engineering, Data Science, IT, or a related field.

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure, including their data storage, processing, and analytics services.

  • Familiarity with cloud deployment and test automation using a CI/CD solution (e.g., Cloud Build, Dagger, or Concourse).

  • Experience in deploying cloud infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform or similar tools.

  • Experience leveraging AI to deliver Data Engineering solutions.
