Job Description

  • Our NielsenIQ Technology teams are working on our new “Connect” platform, a unified, global, open data ecosystem powered by Microsoft Azure. Our clients around the world rely on NielsenIQ’s data and insights to innovate and grow.

    As a Backend Engineer, you’ll be part of a team of smart, highly skilled technologists who are passionate about building scalable systems and prototyping cutting-edge technologies. Our team is co-located and agile, with central technology hubs in Chicago, Madrid, Israel, Toronto, and Chennai.

    Roles and responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using Java and major frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring JPA, Spring Integration.
  • Build and optimize REST APIs / Microservices for highly available multi-site environments.
  • Collaborate internally and deliver solutions in an Agile/SCRUM environment.
  • Deploy and manage applications in Azure, including containerization with Docker and distributed deployment on AKS.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and debug backend systems, containers, and load balancers.
  • Document technical processes and share knowledge with team members.
  • Stay current with best practices, emerging technologies, and continuous improvement methodologies

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–7+ years of experience as a backend engineer working with Java and major frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring JPA, Spring Integration).
  • Strong skills in Core Java, Spring Boot, and REST API / Microservices.
  • Experience or knowledge of object-oriented development, data modeling, and design patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with Postgres and MongoDB.
  • Professional experience with MVC frameworks (Spring MVC).
  • Intermediate understanding of Agile methodology and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of GitHub and experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Experience deploying code as Docker containers on Azure AKS, including debugging and load balancing.
  • Certifications in Azure and/or Agile are a plus.
  • Understanding of HTTP protocol, caching strategies, and testing methodologies.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix (commands, shell scripting).
  • Excellent English communication skills for interfacing with global teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with testing tools and automation frameworks.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, manage ambiguity, and adapt to change.
  • Positive attitude, team spirit, and willingness to embrace feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Nice to Have

  • Experience with FastAPI.
  • Knowledge of Azure certifications.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes.
  • Experience supporting distributed systems in a SaaS environment
