Job Description

Job Purpose 

Nielsen Brandbank Software Developers work collaboratively alongside other development team members, Product Owners & Scrum Masters to realize business goals.  

Working within dedicated domains, the Software Developer - using an incremental delivery approach - is responsible for supporting & developing new and existing products by understanding and translating backlog items into solutions. 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Approach work from an Agile mindset applying practices and principles wherever possible 

  • Work with the Scrum Master in coaching and mentoring other team members to help them embrace the Agile mindset 

  • Expert in their domain 

  • Attend and participate in all Sprint events to achieve desired outcomes, taking a leading role where required to ensure events have a good outcome   

  • Interact with stakeholders/third parties/Product Owner to clarify requirements and provide input into the creation of User Stories   

  • Manage own tasks 

  • Collaborate closely with all team members to take a shared responsibility for estimation/forecasting, sprint planning and sprint success 

  • Take responsibility for the quality of the team’s code - writing unit tests and conduct unit testing where applicable 

  • Maintain broader code quality through peer code reviews  

  • Perform live releases in line with team release schedule   

  • Identify improvement opportunities and agree on actionable improvements 

  • Provide 2nd/3rd line support within his/her domain environment 

  • Be available, on a best endeavors basis, to support the resolution of Severity 1 and 2 incidents for applications owned by your team between 7am and 10pm local time on local working days as well as providing retrospective feedback 

 

Role Requirements E=essential, P=preferred 

E - BE/B.Tech or equivalent professional qualification or experience 

E – Strong hands on technical skills in modern PHP and other key technologies: 

  • PHP v7/8 

  • Symfony Framework 2 or higher 

  • MySQL or MariaDB 

  • Elastic Search 

  • Redis 

  • JavaScript / Typescript (React preferable) 

  • Unit Testing 

  • GIT 

  • XML, JSON 

 

P - Ability to work in Microsoft stack 

  • .NET / dot net core 

  • c# 

  • ASP.net / MVC 

  • SQL Server / TSQL 

  • Azure 

E - Demonstrable experience of mentoring other more junior developers  

E - Ability to learn new languages and technologies quickly 

E - Good understanding of software architecture, issues and design 

E - Good understanding of data and databases 

E - Familiarity and good experience with Agile development methodologies and the complete product lifecycle from inception to delivery 

E - Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal 

E - An analytical mind in identifying appropriate solutions for business requirements 

P - Excited by technology, with up to date understanding of latest technologies 

P - Some experience of code reviews and coding standards
