Job Description

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Nazarbayev University invites applications for an assistant professor in any area of Sociology to begin in August 2025. We are seeking scholars with expertise and teaching experience in quantitative methods with a research focus that complements and enhances that of current faculty. A focus on the Eurasian region is desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach both introductory and upper-level courses in sociology at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Quantitative Methods in Sociology. Responsibilities include a 2/2 teaching load, research, and departmental and School service , which includes supervision of masters and PhD students. The university offers opportunities for research support. This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:   

●  a PhD in Sociology from an accredited and recognized international university (ABD at time of application will be considered, but PhD must be hand before taking up the job);

● Teaching experience at the university level, especially in quantitative methods;

●  An active research agenda (as evidenced by prior peer-reviewed publications or demonstrated ability to publish immediately upon appointment);

● Excellent communication and collaboration skills;

● Commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work environment.
