Job Description

The Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies in the School of Sciences and Humanities at Nazarbayev University in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan invites applications for an open-rank position in the History of Central Eurasia (broadly defined). Time period and area of specialization are open. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a team-taught course on the History of Kazakhstan, to offer other undergraduate and graduate-level courses in their area(s) of specialization, and to advise graduate students in the MA and PhD programs in Eurasian Studies. We especially welcome applications from candidates whose research and teaching address themes including environmental history, public history, heritage studies, digital humanities, gender studies, world history, and other areas that complement those of the department’s current faculty.

The position is available from August 2022. Contracts are for a period of three years and are renewable upon positive review.

 

Qualifications

Successful applicants for Assistant Professor will have been awarded a PhD by the start date in August 2022. They will also be able to demonstrate potential for excellence in research, teaching, and service. Successful senior level applicants will be expected to have a demonstrated track record of excellence in each of these areas. The teaching load is 2+2 with TA support for large classes.
