Job Description

The Vice President, Programming, NBC News NOW is responsible for leading the day-to-day editorial programming of NBC News NOW, executing the editorial vision, strategy and priorities set by the EVP, Editorial and Content. This leader will oversee a team of executive producers, ensure consistent editorial quality and programming across the service. The VP will play a critical role in strengthening collaboration across NBC News, maximizing editorial and production resources, and fostering a high-performing, collaborative newsroom culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure and maintain editorial, storytelling and brand consistency across NBC News Now
  • Determine and drive editorial priorities and programming across News Now in partnership with News Now Executive Producers, Specials, Newsgathering and editorial leads across NBC News
  • In partnership with editorial leaders across NBC News advance and break news in coverage of major, ongoing stories
  • Identify, plan and program for live, rolling coverage on big stories of the day
  • Lead and hold accountable executive producers across the network, ensuring that editorial priorities are consistently reflected in individual programs and across the full programming day.
  • Develop close relationships with show teams and Newsgathering to strengthen and streamline coverage plans and use of resources
  • Identify and foster areas of collaboration across News Now programming
  • Monitor breaking news and coordinate coverage needs with Specials and Newsgathering
  • Oversee and manage futures planning in partnership with editorial leaders and newsgathering
  • Coordinate with creative/production/operations teams on staff schedules, long-range initiatives, control rooms, graphics, and other technical and production considerations
  • Drive operational excellence across the business and make timely programming adjustments to 24-7 stream as news warrants
  • Develop and support an enterprising, inclusive, and collaborative culture
  • Maintain strong financial controllership

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience at a national news organization
  • 15+ years of experience as a newsroom leader overseeing significant editorial programming or 5+ years of executive producing live, breaking news content and a proven control room leader
  • Excellent editorial skill and judgement with deep experience managing investigative, complicated, sensitive, or nuanced reporting
  • Proven success in organizational, interpersonal skills and leadership skills and 5+ years managing teams and working closely with executive producers, correspondents, and anchors
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work under pressure and comfortable meeting multiple daily deadlines
  • History of acting in an entrepreneurial and proactive manner, and the ability to thrive in an ambiguous fast-paced, results orientated environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends), ability to work under tight deadlines, ability to work under pressure, and during breaking news
  • Strong financial acumen and demonstrated ability to manage and maximize programming budget
  • Intellectual curiosity about and passion for both Breaking News and Innovative Storytelling
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information in a discrete manner

Additional Job Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours and be available during major breaking news events.
  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Salary range: $215,000 - $280,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
