Job Description

NBC News is seeking an experienced Anchor Producer to work closely with Tom Llamas and the NBC Nightly News team.

This is a key editorial role at the center of one of the nation’s premier evening newscasts. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and journalist with outstanding editorial judgment, a strong command of breaking news, and the ability to translate complex stories into clear, compelling television copy.

The Anchor Producer will be responsible for writing the anchor copy that helps define the voice, tone, and urgency of NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas, while also producing stories and supporting the anchor across major news events and special coverage.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit anchor copy across NBC Nightly News
  • Work closely with Tom Llamas, the Executive Producer, Senior Broadcast Producer, correspondents, and producers to ensure anchor copy is accurate, conversational, authoritative, and consistent with the editorial voice of the broadcast
  • Exercise excellent editorial judgment in determining the most important information, strongest framing, and clearest language for a national evening news audience
  • Respond quickly to breaking news and rapidly evolving stories, rewriting and updating copy as developments occur
  • Produce and write original pieces for NBC Nightly News as needed, from story development and reporting through scripting, video selection, and final edit
  • Work with correspondents and producers to sharpen story framing, identify the strongest reporting, and ensure scripts provide appropriate context and clarity
  • Conduct reporting, research, and fact-checking to support anchor copy and original storytelling
  • Work closely with the broadcast team throughout the day to stay ahead of major developments and anticipate how stories may change before airtime
  • Help identify distinctive angles, memorable writing, strong moments, and original reporting that elevate the broadcast beyond the basic facts of the day
  • Collaborate with the control room during live broadcasts and breaking news coverage, providing updated anchor copy in real time
  • Provide support during major breaking news, special reports, field assignments, interviews, and other NBC News programming as needed
  • Maintain the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, clarity, and journalistic integrity in every element produced for air

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience producing and writing television news at the national network or cable level
  • Exceptional broadcast writing and copy-editing skills
  • Excellent editorial judgment and a sophisticated understanding of national and international news
  • Demonstrated ability to write quickly, accurately, and conversationally under intense deadline pressure
  • Experience producing television news pieces from conception through final edit
  • Strong reporting, research, and fact-checking skills
  • Experience working closely with anchors, correspondents, senior producers, and newsroom leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and adjust priorities quickly as the news changes
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Must be willing and able to work in person in New York, NY
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during major breaking news events as needed

  • Calm, precise, and solutions-oriented under pressure
  • Highly collaborative, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across the newsroom
  • A strong sense of audience and an understanding of what makes a national evening newscast distinctive, relevant, and memorable

Additional Requirements:

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
