Job Description
NBC Bay Area is looking for a social-first Sports Creator & Host who can bring Bay Area sports to life across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, television, streaming and podcasting.
The content should live where sports, culture and Bay Area fandom intersect.
This is not a traditional sportscaster role, and it is not an influencer role with sports layered on top. We are looking for someone with real sports credibility, a strong personality, and the ability to create compelling content from idea through execution.
What You’ll Do
- Pitch, report, shoot, write and edit social-first content around Bay Area teams, athletes, fans, events and sports culture.
- Cover breaking sports news, major games, practices, press conferences, fan events and other stories as assigned.
- Go live from the field for digital, streaming and television coverage when needed.
- Host a weekly NBC Bay Area sports show and contribute to longer-form interviews, podcasts and streaming programming.
- Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches, executives, fans and other personalities.
- Collaborate closely with the sports team, assignment desk, producers, reporters, digital editors, photographers and the broader newsroom.
- Work with marketing, sales and creative teams to develop sponsored content and integrations that feel natural and maintain audience trust.
- Engage directly with Bay Area sports fans and help build community around NBC Bay Area sports.
- Act as brand ambassador for NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48, participating in advertiser events, brand activations and community appearances with professionalism, authenticity and credibility, both on and off camera.
What We’re Looking For
- Sports Credibility: You genuinely know and follow sports, understand Bay Area teams and fan culture, and can talk about them with confidence and authenticity.
- Creator and MMJ skills: You understand what makes social video work and can take a story from idea to publication. You are comfortable reporting, shooting, writing and editing independently and can operate effectively both with a production team and on your own.
- On-Camera Personality: You are engaging, curious and comfortable being yourself on camera. You can move naturally between a phone, a podcast microphone and a television studio.
- Editorial Judgment: You deliver analysis in an entertaining manner while maintaining accuracy, fairness and NBC editorial standards.
- Commercial Creativity: You provide value to our sponsors through content integration that maintains audience trust and doesn’t sound like an advertisement.
- Flexibility: Sports does not operate on a 9-5 schedule. This role requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays and changing schedules based on the sports calendar and breaking news.
Qualifications
Ideal Experience
Strong candidates may come from social media, sports media, journalism, podcasting, YouTube, entertainment, comedy or another creator-driven field.
Experience with the following is preferred:
- Demonstrated experience shooting, writing, editing and appearing in short-form video content on Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts or similar platforms
- Experience with live reporting or live digital/video production strongly preferred.
- Strong writing, communication and editorial judgment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays. Personality-driven video storytelling on sports, culture and entertainment
- Spanish bilingual a plus
A large social following is not required. We care more about sports knowledge, personality, creativity, storytelling ability and audience connection.
What Success Looks Like
The successful creator will become a recognizable and trusted Bay Area sports personality - someone fans want to follow whether they are watching a 30-second Reel, a YouTube interview, a podcast or a weekly television show.
Additional Requirements:
- Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
