Job Description

NBC Bay Area is launching a new hour-long newscast, and we’re looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking producer to help build it from the ground up in our fast-paced duopoly newsroom.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a show that reflects the energy, diversity, and innovation of the Bay Area. We’re seeking a producer who understands the local market and how audiences consume news across both linear and digital platforms and who isn’t afraid to challenge the traditional format. If you’re driven to break the mold, move fast on breaking news, and create something fresh, impactful, and accurate, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the creation and execution of a new, one-hour broadcast from concept to air
  • Craft compelling, high-impact rundowns that resonate with Bay Area viewers
  • Write and produce engaging content for both broadcast and streaming platforms
  • Drive aggressive, responsive breaking news coverage with urgency, accuracy, and strong editorial judgment
  • Produce dynamic, polished live broadcasts under tight deadlines without compromising accuracy
  • Develop and deliver stories in new, creative, and distinctive ways
  • Make smart, timely editorial decisions in high-pressure situations
  • Collaborate closely with reporters, anchors, digital teams, and assignment editors
  • Integrate digital and social elements to enhance storytelling and audience reach
  • Help define the voice, pace, and style of a brand-new newscast

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strong understanding of the Bay Area—its communities, issues, and audiences
  • A producer who thinks beyond linear, with a clear grasp of digital-first and streaming strategies
  • An innovative storyteller who knows how to push boundaries and reimagine how news is presented
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, breaking news environment with constant deadlines
  • Proven skill in producing clean, compelling, and accurate live broadcasts under pressure
  • Exceptional writing skills with a commitment to clarity, accuracy, and credibility
  • A creative, curious mindset with a passion for evolving how news is delivered
  • A collaborative team player who communicates effectively across departments

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience producing in a medium to large television newsroom

Preferred:

  • Experience in a mid-to-large market newsroom
  • Proven experience building rundowns and producing live newscasts
  • Strong editorial judgment and commitment to accuracy
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work in San Jose, CA (on-site)
  • Flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and breaking news
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
