Job Description

The Back Up Anchor/ Reporter will be responsible for presenting live broadcasts including newscasts, breaking news, and special programming. The Anchor/ Reporter must have a strong editorial background, follows current news events, contributes to the gathering of information for broadcast and can anchor with a high degree of skill. Generate story ideas, research, and write news stories. Present fair and accurate stories. Actively participate in daily editorial meetings with story pitches of interest to our viewers. Communicate with news producers, assignment editors, photographers. Stay informed regarding current events on a national and international level.
 

Responsibilities

  • Generate story ideas, research, and set up the content and interviews
  • Research, write, produce, present fair and accurate stories
  • Gathering and verifying news information and preparing for presentation on air
  • Actively participate in daily editorial meetings with story pitches of interest to our viewers
  • Develop and maintain contacts with community, political leaders and activists and key figures
  • Develop enterprise and exclusive content
  • Collaborate with producers, managers and photographers to conceptualize, write and produce stories
  • Generate a wide variety of story ideas, research and set up the content and interviews
  • Gather and verify information through interviews, observation and research
  • Communicate with news producers, assignment editors and managers regarding story development, progress in the field and/or breaking news stories
  • Stay informed regarding current events on a national, international and regional level
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Executive Producer and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by supervisor
  • Covers other positions and shows as needed including specials, such assignments will be assigned by the Executive Producer

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a television reporter
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field
  • Must be fully fluent in English and Spanish (both written and verbal)
  • Able to present stories on air in a professional manner during pre-packaged reports and live interviews
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions, and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environment
  • Excellent writing skills, able to write clear, concise, compelling, conversational and accurate copy
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule: overtime, weekends, holidays, breaking news scenarios
  • Effective self-starter with the proven ability to generate and produce news stories and enterprise stories
  • Experience being actively engaged in editorial processes and meetings

  • Strong understanding of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, including a current knowledge of laws of libel and slander

Eligibility Requirements

  • Willingness to travel with short notice and on weekends
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including late and/or last-minute scheduling changes in a 24/7 production work environment
  • Must be willing to work in the greater Miami area
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
