Job Description

The Manager, Transportation & Logistics is responsible for overseeing fleet operations, global logistics and customs compliance in support of NBC News Field Operations. This role ensures operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency across domestic fleet activities and international shipping operations supporting time‑critical news coverage worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet & Transportation Management

  • Oversee comprehensive financial management and digital reconciliation of all fleet-related expenses, including EZ-Pass activity, DMV transactions, NYC taxes, fees, violations, vehicle maintenance, fuel, and emergency repair costs to ensure accuracy, transparency, and operational readiness across the NBC News Field Operations fleet.
  • Utilize online fleet management platforms to manage vehicle inventory, including adding and removing vehicles, maintaining driver records, updating registrations and inspections, managing WEX cards, processing reports, and leveraging telematics data to coach and support drivers.
  • Partner with NBC’s commercial transportation provider to ensure regulatory compliance, including truck and fuel tax (IFTA) reporting, IRP registrations, license plate management, and insurance documentation.

Customs & Trade Compliance

  • Establish, maintain, and enforce a high level of U.S. Customs and global trade compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable U.S. export regulations, including but not limited to:
    • International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
    • Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
    • Schedule B Codes
    • Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN)
    • U.S. Import and Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
  • Act as the primary point of contact for U.S. Customs matters.
  • Maintain effective communication with NBC’s customs brokers, freight forwarders, and U.S. Customs officials.
  • Support global customs compliance initiatives for NBC News.
  • Interface directly with Customs authorities to resolve formal inquiries and manage random shipment inspections.

Global Logistics & Freight Operations

  • Provide strategic oversight of all inbound and outbound freight activity to and from NBC’s New York–based global warehouse, ensuring:
    • Accurate shipping documentation
    • Full regulatory compliance
    • Seamless customs clearance
    • Support for time‑critical global news operations
  • Prepare and complete all required government shipping documentation, including Carnets, Temporary Import/Export (TMP) notifications, lithium battery declarations, and other regulatory forms.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with major airlines, customs brokers, and foreign customs agents to facilitate complex and large “hand‑carry” shipments by NBC personnel.
  • Review, validate, and authorize payment of all shipping‑related invoices.
  • Maintain and leverage Global Shipping Alliance (GSA) pre‑negotiated shipping lane rates, utilizing NBCUniversal’s scale to secure the most cost‑effective global cargo solutions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in fleet management, transportation, or logistics.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and web‑based fleet and logistics management tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Requirements

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $80,000 - $115,000 (bonus eligible)
