Job Description

NBC Universal has an opening for an Audio Engineer supporting NBC News Now. The Audio Engineer will prepare show audio requirements and operate equipment to integrate audio sources and create a full program mix for air.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Director, technical and production staff to plan audio requirements for multi-camera television productions

• Offer technical and creative audio solutions to create a high quality mix for air

• Prepare audio operations technical infrastructure details for assigned shows

• Test and prepare television audio operations systems and equipment for use

• Rehearse and lead the audio plan for assigned shows and events

• Program production communications intercom system for studio and remote locations

• Prepare music and sound effects for air

• Handle mic and IFB patching and routing for studio shows

• Coordinate and prepare talent mics and mix-minus for studio and remote locations with the control room Tech Manager and Audio Assistant(s)/A2(s)

• Mix multiple audio sources: studio and remote microphones, music and sound effects

• Work closely with management and Engineering to ensure all audio and comms equipment is meeting clients expectations

• Provide audio coverage as lead (A1) or assist (A2) Audio as assigned

• Responsible for compliance with all applicable company policies

Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be available for all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Must be willing to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice

• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

• Must be 18 years or older

Required Characteristics

• Minimum 3 years of experience using audio consoles and television production intercom systems

• Minimum 2 years of television experience preparing and mixing audio for studio shows from concept to completion

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a live news, sports and/or entertainment production control room environment

• Minimum 2 years prior experience mixing live shows is required (This is not a Post Production Audio position)

• Demonstrated experience integrating, configuring, and building automated audio control room setups

• Working knowledge of audio automation workflows, signal routing, and system-level audio design for live television

• Hands-on experience with Sony ELC automation systems, including setup, integration, and operational support in a live production environment

Desired Characteristics

• Expertise mixing audio for multiple program show formats and styles including news, talk shows, musical performances and special events

• Extensive knowledge of live TV production processes

• Extensive experience with Calrec Audio Consoles

• Extensive experience with RTS Intercom systems and software

• Ability to think quickly, communicate well and keep pace with fast moving shows

• Strong client service and interpersonal skills and the ability to handle pressure in an on-air environment

• Previous experience with INews newsroom systems

• Advanced PC computer skills

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills

• Ability to work in fast-paced, team-oriented environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
