Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

The Director, Business Operations, will be responsible for driving the end-to-end delivery of strategic initiatives in support of the Sports & DPV groups. The Director will be responsible for cost, schedule, performance, and execution of Enterprise Programs.  He/She is also responsible for implementing program management structure leveraging Enterprise tools, processes, and procedures. 

Job Duties

Strategizes, implements, and maintains program initiatives and activities that adhere to the department’s mission, short-term and long-term goals, and broader organizational objectives. Develops benchmarks and assessment protocols for evaluation and improvement

  • Coordinates the work of multiple operational teams, ensuring program goals are reached as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • Manages the budget and budget codes of programs for maximum productivity
  • Leads, advocates, applies, enforces, and maintains agile best practices in planning, coordination, documentation development and organization, risk management, implementation, testing, and validation.
  • Ensures that all aspects of portfolio, programs, initiatives, quality, timing, and scope meet business requirements.
  • Directs the planning and execution of multiple programs to meet the goals set for achieving larger organizational goals successfully.
  • Assists in implementation, integration, verification, and certification phases of a program to help mediate discrepancies and communicate decisions back to Executive Management.
  • Ensures external teams align with all goals and objectives; ensures complete transparency between internal and external teams.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled project team meetings to review progress, discuss critical issues, make decisions, refine plans, and keep team members informed of changes in requirements and the development plan to ensure complete alignment with the program strategy.
  • Identifies impediments and assists the team with removing roadblocks to ensure successful program deliveries.
  • Provides support and guidance to project teams, fostering teamwork, improving communication, and offering suggestions and advice on more effective ways to achieve objectives. Identifies and proactively manages program risks.
  • Holds retrospective sessions and gives a clear vision of the lessons learned to prevent repeating past mistakes.
  • Manages program and project teams to optimize return on investment, and coordinates and delegates cross-project initiatives.
  • Provide hands-on direction and leadership in operational activities related to Incident Management, Change Management, and Problem Resolution that impact customers’ application portfolios, workflows, operational events, or activities.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and overcomes program risks, and produces program reports for management. Works under the direct supervision of the BPO Ops Sports leader and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned, as needed.
  • Act as an escalation point for all engagement-related matters, including non-business hours outage calls and operational activities.
  • Partner with BP&O Product Architecture leaders to identify technology needs and develop technical strategies, internal IT assessments, competitor benchmarking, and industry technology offerings.
  • Act as a change agent by anticipating technology opportunities, proposing viable solutions, and enabling process/technical innovation.
  • Provide oversight on the delivery of application and infrastructure services that directly impact day-to-day activities for internal departments and their customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Management, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of work experience working with large-scale program/project management.
  • 5+ years’ work experience in related field.
  • Proven experience in support of technology initiatives.
  • Experience with both vendor-managed and non-vendor-managed solutions and third-party team resources.
  • Experience in growing an organization and developing a team culture.
  • Successfully managed a large portfolio and program with multiple stakeholders.
  • Communication and interpersonal experience, including relationship building and collaboration with a cross-functional team.
  • Deep understanding of Project Management Methodologies, including Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, think independently, and problem solve to ensure all projects are completed in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of details with excellent accuracy.
  • Effectively handle sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Always provide positive solutions to the problem. Strong sense of ownership.
  • Appropriate sense of urgency and commitment for critical deliverables.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly to senior leadership and relate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Deep understanding of application and infrastructure technologies (compute, storage, network, database, web, integration, virtualization, cloud hosting, etc.).
  • Proficiency in project management applications.
  • Solid documentation skills and proficiency with the M365 Copilot suite, including SharePoint, Power BI, Power Automate, and related SaaS-based apps.
  • Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter who exhibits ownership of assigned tasks and pushes for solutions that address immediate problems while building toward long-term goals.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and manage expectations.
  • Ability to effectively be flexible in approach and respond well to pressure.
  • Must be flexible and have a creative approach to business, with a demonstrated track record of aligning IT objectives and programs to business goals and strategies.

  • Experience within the media and entertainment industry.
  • Prior business relationship management experience.
  • Experience advising and interfacing with senior executives on technology-related issues.
  • Ability to synthesize and simplify complex concepts/requirements to the team and stakeholders and tie back to business objectives.

  •  Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
