Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

  • Lead coverage of breaking/developing news stories both editorially and logistically for both the newsroom and field crews
  • Research, coordinate, pitch & implement coverage of breaking news, continuing coverage and community stories
  • Ability to quickly assess what is needed on coverage of a breaking stories
  • Ability to find & book experts and community members who help define a story 
  • Collaborate with the website, social media, and streaming teams
  • Initiate & maintain communication with affiliates & News Channel counterparts 
  • Consistently monitor and break news through social media platforms and tools 
  • Establish & maintain working story & contact files

Qualifications

  • Working Knowledge of Police Scanners
  • Working knowledge of live production/transmission
  • Able to work independently and as a member of a team 
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and status updates to both editorial and technical teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
  • At least 4 years’ experience including: work in a broadcast news environment, coordinating assignments, generating story ideas.
  • Two years’ experience as an Assignment Editor.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
