Job Description
NBCUniversal's Data & Legal Solutions team operates as a central program operations group working as trusted partners implementing strategic programs across Ad Sales, Distribution, Marketing, Research, Technology, Legal, and HR. We work to provide relevant insights and structure across our diverse portfolio to power intelligent business decisions required in order to compete within today's highly complex multi-platform and fragmented media landscape with a focus on Legal, Compliance and Data driven business solutions.
The Sr Director of Compliance & Privacy Tech Operations will oversee the development, implementation, and management of both privacy and compliance programs, ensuring adherence to global regulations, internal standards, and operational best practices. This role will focus on enhancing the organization’s compliance posture and privacy frameworks, fostering a culture of data protection, regulatory alignment, and operational efficiency across all business units. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with expertise in privacy, compliance, and regulatory operations, including experience with GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and other standards as they emerge. Responsibilities include:
Operational Excellence in Compliance and Privacy:
Build and enhance operational processes to support regulatory compliance and data protection, ensuring adherence to privacy-by-design and compliance-by-design principles.
Oversee data mapping, records of processing activities, privacy impact assessments (PIAs), and compliance risk assessments, ensuring thorough documentation and regular risk evaluation.
Establish and monitor metrics for program effectiveness, generating reports to track compliance and privacy program performance.
Support development, socialization, and execution of a Data Privacy by Design
Support of controls development for adherence to policies and procedures
Development and coordination of technology strategy to enable preventative and detective data privacy controls
Policy Development and Training:
In partnership with relevant Legal functions, develop and enforce privacy and compliance controls, policies, standards, and guidelines that align with regulatory requirements.
Oversee and contribute to privacy and compliance training programs to ensure employees are informed and engaged in best practices for data protection and regulatory compliance.
Stay informed about regulatory changes and emerging compliance obligations, adapting policies and training as required.
Risk Management and Incident Response:
Lead privacy and compliance risk assessments to identify, assess, and address potential privacy and compliance risks.
Manage the incident response process for privacy and compliance issues, coordinating with internal teams for swift resolution and communication.
Serve as the primary point of contact for audits, regulatory assessments, and third-party compliance evaluations.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Advise senior leadership on privacy and compliance risks, providing insights and guidance on regulatory obligations, risk mitigation, and operational efficiencies.
Collaborate with legal counsel and regulatory agencies on compliance and privacy matters, managing inquiries and audits as needed.
Collaborate with Legal, IT, Security, and business teams to incorporate privacy and compliance by design into new initiatives, product development, and corporate operations.
Creation and ongoing support of cross-functional support teams
Organizational alignment of implementation responsibilities
Team Leadership and Development:
Manage and mentor a team of privacy and compliance professionals, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Develop team expertise and support professional growth through targeted development and training opportunities.
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
12+ years of professional business experience with a progressive track record of accomplishments in Information Governance, Data Governance, Data Operations or Business Operations
Relevant Bachelor’s degree
2+ years of experience managing a team
Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations that may impact NBCUniversal
Demonstrated understanding of Acceptable Data Use, Data Sovereignty, Data Access Governance, Data Protection, and Data Disposal
Strong project management and coordination skills with proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and manage multiple projects
Skilled at setting strategies, and developing and executing plans around the strategies
Demonstrated leadership and partnering skills, plus excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical partners (including senior leadership) with focus on informing, influencing and relationship building
Strong consultative skills which includes the proven ability to influence consensus decision making across a variety of stakeholders and to succinctly document the outcome of these decisions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of the media industry
Relevant advanced degree
Experience with Onetrust, JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint and/or Agile required
Ability to manage through competing/conflicting requests and obtain consensus
Ability to overcome obstacles and develop resolutions to complex problems
Ability to translate business process needs and legal requirements into clear technical requirements and vice versa
Ability to influence internal and external team members without direct reporting authority
Proven record of demonstrating self-initiative and working independently with little supervision
Excellent project management & leadership skills with demonstrated planning & organization capabilities

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
