Job Description

NBCUniversal is looking for an individual to fill the role of Sr DevOps Engineer. As a member of the NBC Production Infrastructure team, this individual would architect solutions to further migrate Enterprise IT offerings to the cloud as well as support a hybrid infrastructure model.  They will also be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and services that directly support broadcast production.

Reliability Engineering is a methodology that combines automation, codified infrastructure, and continuous delivery to reduce operational complexity and increase platform stability and usability. Applying this approach to the enterprise broadcast environment, the Sr. DevOps Engineer will design and build solutions to automate, provision, and maintain infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments. 

This role will rely heavily on Infrastructure-As-Code, Configuration Management, and cloud-native architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize infrastructure as-code and GitOps tooling to enable secure and reliable provisioning of systems across hybrid cloud environments (AWS, VMWare, Nutanix, etc)
  • Maintain and manage virtual infrastructure hardware stacks (VMWare, Nutanix, etc.)
  • Design and implement CI / CD pipelines to ensure code quality, agility, security, and policy.
  • Provide technical guidance to a growing team of developers and engineers, ensuring and enforcing best application and network security practices
  • Collaborate with other teams throughout the company on user access controls (Active Directory, Group Policy, etc.)
  • Design, Implement, and Maintain a physical and virtual platform for media and production services.
  • Administration of automation, monitoring, and diagnostic tools for site reliability.
  • Maintain production systems by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health
  • Support and maintain new and current production infrastructure on both a hardware and software level.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot networking communications between various cloud and non-cloud infrastructure.
  • Maintain client security compliance which consists of OS level and vendor software patching, account security, etc.   

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Helm, Puppet, and Ansible
  • 3+ years experience designing and implementing innovative IT infrastructure solutions at enterprise scale
  • Production experience with AWS/Azure platforms and core service offerings
  • Experience with VDI workflows, desktop delivery, image pipelines, remote connectivity
  • Linux/Windows operating system internals, debugging, and best practices
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills (presenting to executives, engagement with vendors, technical writing, documentation, etc.)
  • Keen eye for information cyber security (zero-trust, machine identity, authentication, authorization, secrets abstraction)
  • Proficient in at least one of the following languages: Python, Bash, Powershell

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience as a Cloud Solutions Architect, or similar role
  • Experience with virtual stacks (VMware, Nutanix, etc.)
  • Microsoft Windows / Linux OS operations and administration.
  • Relevant Cloud / IT certifications
  • Rest API design, implementation, usage, debugging, and documentation
  • Proficiency with source control repositories (GitHub, GitLab), pipelines and integrations
  • Experience with monitoring/alerting suites (Datadog, Cloudwatch, Grafana, etc)
  • Service mesh / service discovery
  • Agile methodologies, image pipelines, CI/CD, SDLC
  • Understanding of software-defined-networking and service connectivity - specifically Cisco ACI, AWS Transit Gateway, Express Route, Direct Connect, routing protocols
  • Contribution to open-source projects
  • Comfort working with nosql databases
  • Proficiency writing and debugging code in Python and/or Go
  • Ability to script routine tasks in Bash and PowerShell
  • Expertise in design principles for scalability, performance, and reliability

Salary range: $110,000 - $140,000
