Job Description
Job Summary: As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be working in a working shipyard and will be responsible for the mechanical upgrade, repair and refit in relation to projects on site. Duties to (include but not limited to) - installation and removal of mechanical equipment, operation of machinery and inspections/monitoring during operation. Alignment of machinery and drive chain to set tolerances using optical equipment. Machining and milling of small ad hoc parts required for equipment removal /installation.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Dismantle and re-assemble mechanical assemblies.
- Inspect equipment and identify faulty components.
- Carry out preventative maintenance work on plant and equipment.
- Align equipment to set tolerances
- Test pipework and systems, commission systems.
- Assist other disciplines when required.
- Experience with overhead cranes and lifting equipment
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Time served mechanical fitter either in a shipyard or similar field activity where refit work was undertaken.
- Relevant qualification, indentured apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds etc.
- Understanding of dimensional control techniques such as Electronic Distance Measuring (EDM).
- Understanding of engineered drawings and technical documents.
- Knowledge and compliance of work place safety.
- Work execution independently according to valid instructions, rules and other standards.
- Flexible cooperation with other team-members
