Job Description
Job Summary
The Intern, Communications supports NASTAD’s Communications team in all internal and external communications activities. Tasks may include, but aren’t limited to, updating websites, writing copy online and offline platforms, scheduling social media, building eblasts, graphic design, video editing, assisting with project management, and document design and layout.
Essential Duties
- Support the Communications team in keeping the organization’s web-based platforms (e.g. websites, blogs, and social media) up to date
- Assist in the design and formatting of NASTAD products (online and print) and contribute to writing projects such as op-eds and blog posts
- Assist digital lead with optimizing content and engaging audiences strategically for NASTAD’s online platforms
- Follow trends and news on emerging technologies and social metrics as needed for internal review
- Assist with project management, including scheduling meetings, creating agendas, taking notes during calls, and keeping track of deadlines
Qualifications
Experience/Education
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited bachelor or master degree program, working towards degrees in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- One year of intern or professional communications or marketing experience
Minimum Competencies,Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Solid project management, research, writing, editing, and communications skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to take on multiple projects at once
- Basic understanding of social media and online content practices, including an understanding of audience behaviors by channel and platform
- Basic personal and professional experience in creating content for online communities
- Ability to adapt to shifting and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Additional Competencies, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of document design and experience using Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or Canva to create web-ready content a plus
- Experience with content management systems (e.g. Drupal), email marketing tools (e.g.Mailchimp), social media management tools (e.g. Sprout Social), and basic knowledge of HTML and CSS a plus
- Experience with video editing software such as iMovie a plus
Additional Information
Environment and Scheduling
- Able to commit to at least 15-20 hours per week
- Intern will be paid $15/hr
- We will work with candidates to receive college credit(s) where applicable
