Job Description
The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading multiple engineering teams, driving execution against business priorities, and developing a high-performing engineering organization. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role partners closely with Product, Architecture, Program Management, and Business leaders to deliver scalable, reliable, and innovative solutions aligned with company objectives.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The following list of responsibilities is not all inclusive, additional projects and/or tasks may be assigned to meet operational needs. MCG retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position should operational needs warrant.
- Lead and develop engineering managers and individual contributors across multiple teams.
- Drive delivery of strategic engineering initiatives while ensuring quality, security, performance, and reliability.
- Partner with Product Management to translate business strategy into engineering roadmaps and execution plans.
- Establish engineering best practices, processes, and operational metrics to improve efficiency and predictability.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Manage staffing plans, workforce development, succession planning, and performance management.
- Oversee resource allocation and prioritization to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with Architecture and Technical Leads to ensure technical solutions align with long-term platform strategy.
- Monitor and improve key engineering KPIs, including delivery velocity, system reliability, quality, and employee engagement.
- Support organizational change initiatives and help scale engineering capabilities across teams and locations.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
- Experience leading multiple engineering teams through engineering managers.
- Proven track record of delivering complex software products and platforms.
- Strong understanding of Agile development methodologies and modern software development practices.
- Experience managing budgets, staffing, and strategic workforce planning.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Supervisory Requirements
- Lead and develop engineering managers and individual contributors across multiple teams.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Business Administration.
- Experience leading geographically distributed teams.
- Experience with cloud platforms, modern architectures, DevOps, and AI-enabled solutions.
- Experience integrating organizations through periods of growth, transformation, or acquisition.
