Job Description
Position Overview
We’re seeking a Director of Product Engineering to lead the technical architecture, development, and productization of next-generation power solutions, with a primary focus on 800VDC distribution and advanced data center power architectures. Reporting directly to the Sr. VP of Innovation, this role will serve as the technical authority driving the evolution of our power platform from concept through scalable, manufacturable offerings.
This leader will operate at the intersection of advanced engineering, product development, and strategic partnerships—translating emerging technologies into deployable, high-performance solutions. You will define system-level architectures, lead cross-functional engineering execution, and partner with external technology providers to deliver innovative power solutions for hyperscale and next-generation AI data centers.
This role is critical to establishing MCG as a leader in next-generation power infrastructure, enabling higher density, improved efficiency, and scalable deployment models for mission-critical environments.
What You’ll Do
Technical Architecture Leadership
- Define and lead system-level architecture for next-generation power solutions, with emphasis on 800VDC distribution and MV-to-chip strategies
- Establish technical direction across power conversion, energy storage, protection systems, and distribution topologies
- Drive architectural decisions balancing performance, scalability, cost, manufacturability, and reliability
- Develop reference architectures and design frameworks for standardization across product lines
Productization & Engineering Execution
- Lead the technical productization of new architectures into scalable, manufacturable product offerings
- Translate advanced engineering concepts into structured designs, specifications, and production-ready systems
- Partner with Product Management to align technical development with roadmap and market needs
- Drive design for manufacturability (DFM), design for reliability (DFR), and cost optimization initiatives
- Support introduction of new products into manufacturing, ensuring readiness across operations and supply chain
Partner & Ecosystem Development
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify key technology partners across power conversion, batteries, controls, and protection systems
- Lead technical collaboration with partners to integrate enabling technologies into system architectures
- Co-develop and validate solutions through joint engineering, testing, and deployment initiatives
- Establish long-term technical partnerships aligned with strategic innovation priorities
Installation, Testing & Deployment
- Oversee installation and commissioning of new architectures in pilot and production environments
- Define and execute validation, testing, and performance benchmarking strategies
- Ensure solutions meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements in real-world applications
- Capture field learnings to continuously refine architecture and product design
Customer & Market Engagement
- Engage directly with customers, hyperscalers, consultants, and partners to validate technical solutions
- Support technical positioning in strategic pursuits and innovation-driven opportunities
- Translate customer requirements into engineering inputs and system-level design decisions
- Serve as a technical thought leader representing MCG in industry forums and engagements
Engineering Standards & Capability Building
- Drive engineering standardization across architectures, design practices, and documentation
- Establish design guidelines, reference models, and reusable frameworks
- Elevate engineering competency in emerging technologies (DC architectures, solid-state systems, energy storage)
- Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence
Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Ensure all solutions comply with relevant codes and standards (NEC, UL, NFPA, ANSI, etc.)
- Guide design decisions to meet evolving regulatory requirements for new power architectures
- Interface with certification bodies and support product approvals
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of engineering design experience in power systems, electrical infrastructure, or data center environments
- Deep expertise in power conversion technologies (AC/DC, DC/DC), energy storage systems, and system-level architectures
- Strong understanding of data center electrical topologies, including MV/LV and emerging DC architectures
- Proven experience leading complex engineering programs from concept through deployment
- Experience working with external partners, suppliers, and technology ecosystems
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with ability to influence across technical and business stakeholders
- Willingness to travel as needed for customer, partner, and manufacturing engagement
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with 800VDC or HVDC architectures in data centers or industrial applications
- Background in solid-state power conversion (SSTs, AFE, advanced converters)
- Experience integrating battery systems or energy storage into power architectures
- Familiarity with modular or prefabricated power systems (eHouses, skids, integrated solutions)
- Engineering leadership experience in innovation-driven or high-growth environments
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
