At Meridian, we’re proud to be Aotearoa’s largest producer of renewable electricity, generating power from 100% renewable sources – wind, water and sun. We’re passionate about creating a fairer and healthier world, and supporting our communities to reduce carbon emissions while keeping New Zealand powered. We also retail electricity to more than 365,000 homes, businesses, and farms through our Meridian and Powershop brands

Job Description

Mō te tūranga | What you’ll be doing

As a summer intern with Meridian Energy, you'll get the opportunity to work on some of New Zealand's most iconic hydro and/or wind generation assets, as well as being active in all aspects of the company. The programme will push you to develop real-life business and technical skills.

We only take a small number of interns each year, and we only want the best! In return we’ll make sure you get some great hands-on experience. You’ll be trusted with owning real projects that contribute to how we generate, deliver and support energy across Aotearoa, and will be supported by a friendly team of experts along the way,  who will help develop your knowledge, skills, and professional profile.

Ngā pukenga kei a koe mō tenei tūranga | What you’ll bring

You'll gain hands-on exposure at our key generation sites, work shoulder-to-shoulder with seasoned engineers, and solve real-world challenges that span different hydro and wind generation systems. This 400-professional hour placement doesn’t just tick the box for your university requirements - it offers immersive learning across engineering and other Generation and Development business teams. Along the way, you’ll uncover the inner workings of Aotearoa’s energy systems and see firsthand what it takes to keep the country powered.

What are we after?

We’re keen to hear from students across a variety of disciplines, currently in your 3rd (penultimate) year of a relevant degree, who are curious and passionate about the electricity industry.

We’ve got a strong culture - we like to work hard and have fun whilst we’re doing it. We live by three ‘How to Be’s’: Be gutsy, be a good human, and be in the waka.

Some of our intern roles may require a full, clean driver's license, particularly when regular travel to generation sites is part of the role.
