Job Description

Mō te tūranga | What you’ll be doing 

We are looking for a Wind Service Technician to join a team of multi-disciplined Technicians who work hard to keep our wind turbines in great shape. You will be maintaining and servicing 62 wind turbines at West Wind, which can generate enough renewable energy to power about 78,000 average New Zealand homes!   

With the support of the team, your Team Lead and the Site Owner, you will work safely and effectively to deliver on our maintenance plan consisting of electrical, hydraulic, and other key mechanical equipment.  

In addition to your day-to-day activities, you will be open to development opportunities, growing your trade knowledge and experience as you progress through our competency framework. Safety and technical training will be provided to ensure you have all the tools necessary to succeed.  

This is an on-site role, at our West Wind site, situated 30 minutes from the Wellington CBD. You’ll be working regular Monday to Friday hours over a 9-day fortnight, with some reactive maintenance and monitoring outside of normal working hours on a rostered basis once trained. Additionally, Meridian is a NZ-wide operation and there may be the requirement of short periods of travel to suit the operational needs of the business.  

Qualifications

Ngā pukenga kei a koe mō tenei tūranga | What you’ll bring 

  • A strong focus on safety in the workplace and the ability to work in a small team. 

  • The role is suited to registered electricians or those with an electrical trade qualification, but candidates with mechanical, hydraulic, or other relevant trade backgrounds (e.g. marine, oil & gas, dairy, or heavy industry) will also be considered. 

  • Having experience in the wind industry and an appetite and ability to work in all types of conditions will be an advantage. 

  • Electrical, mechanical & hydraulic fault-finding experience, with the ability to read and interpret schematic drawings. 

  • Prepared to get your hands dirty in support of mechanical tasks as part of any given day. 

  • Current Driver’s License 

  • Because of the nature of the work, you’ll need to be physically fit and able to climb up to 70 metres and lift to 25kg. 

  • You’ll be comfortable working in confined spaces, and it goes without saying able to work at height!
