Head of Generation Assets
- Full-time
Company Description
Mai te hiku ki te taurapa, whitikina e te rā
From the tail of the fish to the tail of the waka, shines the sun
Meridian is Aotearoa’s largest producer of renewable electricity, generating power from 100% renewable resources – wind, water, and sun, because we believe that’s the best for our planet and our communities. We strive to deliver clean energy for a fairer and healthier world, helping reduce carbon emissions and supporting our communities. We also retail electricity to more than 400,000 homes, businesses, and farms across New Zealand through our Meridian and Powershop brands.
Mō te tūranga | What you’ll be doing
- As Head of Generation Assets, you’ll play a hands‑on leadership role in ensuring Aotearoa has a safe, reliable supply of renewable electricity, today and into the future. You’ll bring a strong focus on kaitiakitanga, looking after critical assets in a way that protects people, performance, and long‑term value.
- You’ll take end‑to‑end responsibility for the health, availability, and performance of Meridian’s Generation assets across Southland, Waitaki, and the North Island. This includes hydro stations, wind farms, grid‑scale batteries, and solar as new assets are developed and brought into operation.
- Working closely with site leaders, regional managers, and specialist teams, you’ll set clear priorities across maintenance, outages, projects, and capital investment. You’ll lead through whanaungatanga, building strong relationships and clarity of accountability across teams and partners.
- You’ll lead the shift to predictive, risk‑based asset management through DigiGEN (Meridian’s programme for data‑driven asset management and investment decision‑making). This means using better information and insight to lift availability and reliability, reduce unplanned outages, and make smart operating and investment decisions over time.
- You’ll champion strong operational discipline, safety, and continuous improvement, and bring manaakitanga to how you lead, creating an environment where people are supported to do their best work.
- Partnering closely with our Renewable Development group, you’ll ensure new assets are handed over safely and smoothly, with teams set up for success from day one. As a member of the Generation Leadership Team, you’ll work collectively with peers to shape Generation’s strategy and long‑term investment direction, with shared accountability for performance, safety, culture, and long‑term value.
