Job Description

Ability Action Australia is growing — and we’re looking for a Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our multi-disciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be providing supports to NDIS participants living close to the Ipswich area.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting NDIS participants, along with their families and/or carers, to manage challenging behaviours to improve their quality of life, and develop new skills
  • You will complete thorough assessments to understand behaviour triggers, identify risks & consider specific strategies to improve behaviour outcomes
  • You will develop Behaviour Support Plans and provide support to families and/or carers, for consistent implementation 
  • Maintain a caseload with ongoing monitoring, support and make adjustments where required.
  • Develop meaningful goals and practical strategies utilising a positive behaviour support framework, with a commitment to eliminate restrictive practices, in the home and community
  • Ensuring individual plans reflect our NDIS participants' goals, passions and strengths, as well as ensuring they get more out of life
  • Build the knowledge, capacity and strengths of those who support participants in their lives - family, carers or friends
  • Act as an advocate and role model for best practice
  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience working with disabilities and challenging behaviours
  • Disability &/or Mental Health support work experience essential.
  • Degree level qualifications of relevance to providing support to people with behaviours of concern are highly preferred
  • Commitment to person-centred practice and reducing restrictive interventions
  • Strong report writing skills and the ability to translate assessment findings into clear, actionable plans
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to balance a dynamic caseload
