McWane Inc. has a newly created division, McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI). This new division, based in Birmingham, AL, combines all Plant and Industrial Products in a single customer-focused package. We offer comprehensive solutions through an experienced team of professionals specifically focused on these two special markets. Our Mission is to be the Plant and Industrial supplier who is “easiest to do business with”. We will make it easier to engineer, specify, and order components for plants. We will provide greater support for smoother delivery, cost-effective installation, and start-up. Most importantly, we will build strong relationships with design engineers, contractors, plant operations teams and project owners to assure we are their first-choice supplier for both new construction and future upgrades.

Technical Sales Manager
Location

Regional Sales Director
Position Summary
The Technical Sales Manager is responsible for increasing customer preference and driving specification and demand for MPI products in the marketplace for their assigned geographic region. The incumbent will meet with engineering firms, end-users, municipalities, consultants, OEMs, and contractors to deliver technical presentations, provide consultative technical support, and write specifications to build and grow key customer relationships within a given region. The incumbent will also be responsible for training our internal and external audiences, including local agent sales teams and customers, as it pertains to these products.
The incumbent will be expected to assist the internal product management and engineering teams with customer feedback on new product and service projects. In addition, they will be expected to formulate customer needs and concerns into workable product specifications to be implemented by the appropriate product manager.
This position requires complex technical knowledge and strong communication skills to be able to make technical recommendations on product solutions and specifications. A highly entrepreneurial sense of urgency along with a passion for the industry is desirable, along with a drive to grow both personally and professionally.
In this role you will:
- Drive MPI product demand through specification and consultative sales efforts with end-users, municipalities, engineering firms, and contractors.
- Develop and maintains liaison with top management of key end-users, municipalities, engineers, and contractors located within the territory.
- Responsible for initiating and implementing training plans for reps, distributors, end-users, municipalities, engineering firms, and contractors.
- Ensures pull through sales by collaborating with Regional Sales Managers and partnering with key distributor personnel.
- Develop, update, and execute regional penetration plans.
- Ensures appropriate technical assistance regarding product applications to engineering firms, end-users, municipalities, contractors, and standards personnel.
- Trains sales force on how to specify, sell, and properly apply the products. Trains customers on how to specify the products.
- Develops and presents technical seminars for customers as needed.
- Accountable for providing technical support and information to customers on a pre-sales and post-sales basis for product applications, specification, interpretation, and quotation support.
- Informs the company of business and product trends, competitive conditions within the region, and supports new product releases and new/adjacent account development.
- Work cross-functionally to recommend, develop, and execute new or modified programs to ensure competitive position is maintained within a sales territory.
- Reports on new product or process technology, new specifications required by customers, classification of new products; determines quality issues, and directs customer complaints regarding quality, specifications, and delivery condition of products.
- Identifies current and future customer service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual customers and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
- Participate and attend local, regional, and national trade shows in support of the market.
- Actively participate and engage in Design Build process with consulting engineers, contractors, and end-users.
Qualifications
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum of three years of proven experience in and Industrial or Mechanical Industry
- Experience making group presentations
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to think on your feet to field technical questions.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and effectively
- Ability to utilize creative skills effectively
- Superior organizational skills
- Ability to travel up to 60%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Engineering fields.
- Experience technically selling valves, preferably in the AWWA market
- 3 years in a specification-based industry and engineering experience
- Current experience or history calling on engineering firms, municipalities, and contractors/installers
- History of specification activity, strong specification background
- MBA or other advanced business-related degrees
