Job Description
Our Super and Insurance team continue to provide access to justice even through these challenging times. Now more than ever, we exist to help our clients make claims on their super funds' insurance policies or take on the insurers to right the wrong.
As such we are seeking a Law Clerk to help build this team further. Reporting to the Claims Team Leader and supported by a Lawyer and Legal Assistant, the key objective of these roles will be to manage a high-volume portfolio of Superannuation & Insurance claims. This full-time role is based in our Melbourne CBD office.
Key Responsibilities
- Management of Superannuation & Insurance claims
- Management of budgetary requirements and performance outcomes
- Supervision and mentoring of legal assistant(s), with focus on continuous improvement
- Meet with a diverse range of prospective clients from the beginning to the end of their claim
- Respond to client queries and manage expectations
- Draft correspondence using precedents under the supervision of a Lawyer
- Co-ordinate claims documentation and liaise with funds to obtain information relevant to the claim
- Support the development of a Legal Assistant within the direct team and broadly across the department. This includes delegation and supervision with a focus on continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Experience in a high-volume claims assessment role within a superannuation fund or insurance company
- Significant experience as a legal assistant in a high-volume plaintiff law firm, or professional services firm, demonstrating solid skills and knowledge of claims process, and high-volume claims management
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi-task with competing demands
- Strong communication skills in liaising both internally and externally – including written, oral and interpersonal
- Alignment with the values and objectives of Maurice Blackburn
- Ability to work in a team environment and adhere to the culture of Maurice Blackburn
- Enthusiasm and the ability to learn & grow in this area of law
- PS146 or ASFA 100 qualifications would be a distinct advantage
