Job Description
In this role, you will act as a key representative and subject matter expert of the Data Management team, helping business and implementation stakeholders understand the purpose, benefits, and practical value of structured Data Governance.
You will operate and continuously improve the Data Governance framework, coordinate the Data Excellence Network, facilitate governance forums, and support the creation, review, approval, and publication of high-quality business definitions across the Conceptual Data Model, Reference Data Model, Metrics Model, and Data Quality Model.
Responsibilities
- Act as a visible and trusted representative of the Data Management team, explaining the purpose, benefits, and practical value of Data Governance to business and implementation stakeholders.
- Operate and continuously improve the Data Governance framework, including policies, standards, guidelines, roles, responsibilities, processes, and interaction models.
- Ensure governance practices are applied consistently and embedded into day-to-day business operations and project delivery.
- Design, maintain, and improve practical governance processes for data ownership, stewardship, business definitions, data quality, data domains, reference data, metadata, and governance issues.
- Coordinate the Data Excellence Network by supporting Data Domain Owners, Data Definition Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Maintenance Owners, while clarifying responsibilities and enabling collaboration across functions.
- Identify, engage, and onboard the right governance role owners across the company, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and actively participate in governance activities.
- Facilitate governance forums, workshops, and reviews by preparing materials, tracking decisions, following up actions, and escalating unresolved issues where needed.
- Manage the process for maintaining Data Domains and Data Subdomains, including structure changes, ownership assignments, and resolution of ownership ambiguities with stakeholders.
- Govern business metadata and definitions by coordinating maintenance activities, overseeing Dataspot workflows, monitoring completeness and quality, and supporting review, approval, and publication.
- Support Data Stewards and Data Definition Owners in creating clear, business-friendly, high-quality definitions across the Conceptual Data Model, Reference Data Model, Metrics Model, and Data Quality Model.
- Partner with the Data Architect to populate enterprise models with high-quality content, ensuring that the Data Architect remains responsible for model architecture and structure, while the Data Governance Manager ensures stakeholder engagement and definition quality.
- Drive adoption of Data Governance practices through training, coaching, communication, change management, and promotion of data ownership and accountability.
- Monitor governance performance through relevant KPIs, such as ownership coverage, stewardship coverage, definition approval progress, metadata completeness, governance participation, maturity, and policy compliance.
- Identify improvement opportunities by assessing process effectiveness, gathering stakeholder feedback, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending changes to standards, processes, and operating models.
- Act as the Data Governance subject matter expert for projects, business stakeholders, Data Domain Owners, and Data Stewards.
Qualifications
- 4-5 years of hands-on experience in Data Governance, Data Management or metadata management
- Strong understanding of Data Governance operating models, including roles such as Data Domain Owner, Data Definition Owner, Data Steward, Data Maintenance Owner, and related governance forums
- Experience in designing, maintaining, and improving governance policies, standards, guidelines, processes, and practical workflows
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage both business and technical stakeholders
- Ability to explain Data Management concepts in a clear, practical, and persuasive way to stakeholders with different levels of data maturity
- Experience in driving adoption, training role owners, supporting change management, and building active governance communities
- Strong quality mindset and attention to detail, especially when reviewing business definitions, metadata, and documentation for clarity, consistency, and compliance with standards
- Ability to work closely with Data Architects and implementation teams while maintaining a clear distinction between governance content ownership and data model architecture responsibilities
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written
Additional Information
Nice to have
- Experience with metadata management, data catalog, or Data Collaboration platforms such as Dataspot or comparable tools.
- Familiarity with conceptual data modelling, reference data management, metrics definitions, or data quality rule definition.
- Experience in change management, training, communication, or community building in a cross-functional enterprise environment.
- Experience in process improvement, operating model design, or governance framework development.
