Job Description
The Maintenance Technician serves as the primary point of contact for all building and equipment maintenance activities within the Distribution Center. This role is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the facility, material handling equipment (MHE), and supporting operational continuity by proactively identifying issues, performing basic-to-intermediate repairs, and managing vendor relationships for specialized services. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, mechanically inclined, and capable of operating all types of powered industrial trucks (PITs) and warehouse equipment.
Principle Responsibilities
Facility & Building Maintenance
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on building systems including, dock doors, dock levelers, dock seals, and overhead doors.
- Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to proactively identify safety hazards, structural issues, and maintenance needs before they impact operations.
- Execute handyman-level repairs including carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, and basic electrical work (light switches, outlets, fixtures).
- Maintain clean, organized, and functional work areas including parking lots, exterior grounds, breakrooms, restrooms, and common areas.
- Monitor and respond to building alarms, system notifications, and facility-related work orders in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire codes, and all applicable safety and building regulations.
Forklift & Material Handling Equipment (MHE)
- Operate all types of powered industrial trucks and material handling equipment, including sit-down forklifts, reach trucks, order pickers, pallet jacks (electric and manual), and scissor lifts.
- Assist with performing pre-shift and post-shift inspections (OSHA daily checklists) on all MHE; document findings and initiate corrective actions.
- Conduct basic forklift repairs including battery maintenance and watering, charger troubleshooting, fluid checks, mast inspections, and minor hydraulic or electrical diagnostics.
- Assist in identifying root causes of equipment malfunctions, assess repair scope, and determine when work can be handled in-house versus escalated to an outside vendor.
- Maintain accurate equipment maintenance logs, repair histories, and downtime records to support operational reporting.
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for all outside vendors and contractors performing building or equipment maintenance and repair services.
- Schedule, coordinate, and supervise vendor work to minimize operational disruption; ensure vendors adhere to facility safety protocols and access policies.
- Obtain quotes, review scope of work, and provide input to management on vendor selection and service quality.
- Track open work orders with vendors; follow up to ensure timely completion and verify quality of finished work before sign-off.
- Maintain vendor contact lists, service agreements, warranty documentation, and service records.
Parts, Supplies & Inventory
- Manage and maintain an organized parts room and maintenance supply inventory; track usage and reorder consumables proactively.
- Source parts and supplies cost-effectively while maintaining quality standards; obtain management approval for purchases exceeding established thresholds.
- Maintain tools and maintenance equipment in safe, serviceable condition.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- 1+ year experience in hands on experience in facilities or equipment maintenance
- Must be able to obtain forklift license through the Company
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and standard maintenance equipment.
- Effective communication skills to interact professionally with vendors, contractors, and internal leadership.
- Basic computer proficiency for submitting work orders, tracking maintenance logs, and communicating via email.
