Responsible for compliance with U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) laws and regulations to ensure the company’s overall compliance with all U.S. Government Regulatory agencies related to the company’s import services.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administration and guidance on U.S. Customs Regulations, processes, and company policies for the regions import department, including performance metrics
  • Maintain record-keeping standards according to US Customs regulations, preparation and submission of documents to U.S. Customs as well as other government agencies in accordance with company policy
  • Assist and confirm the HTS code for new products and audit the HTS code for existing products
  • Draft requests for advice on HTSUS codes for non-binding rulings
  • Help ensure company and vendor compliance with CBP regulations related to the companies’ import services through audits, training, process review, and guidance
  • Identify and deploy trade compliance software to perform audits of import/export entries, and where software may not be utilized, complete manual audits of import/export requirements; recommend appropriate changes and improvements
  • Develop and implement processes and training to ensure compliance with FTA programs and other international trade programs and initiatives
  • Support sourcing optimization, feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analyses, enabling multi-country sourcing capabilities and opportunities
  • Review documents and current procedures on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with government and company requirements
  • Anticipate and provide updates on future regulations
  • Handle all correspondence and/or telephone communications necessary to obtain any additional information, updates, and changes, as well as review documentation required to meet CBP and related compliance requirements
  • Monitor problem files and implement corrective action when needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, transportation, logistics, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Knowledge of US Customs and international trade, with a basic understanding of customs valuation, classification, compliance/audit, and trade programs
  • Knowledge of the HTSUS classification system
  • Export compliance experience
  • Client service orientation, initiative, responsiveness
  • Working knowledge of all US Customs compliance rules and regulations
  • Knowledge and skill in desktop applications, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of SAP a plus
  • Possess advanced knowledge of international trade rules and regulations, HTS/ECCN classification, Incoterms 2020, USMCA, valuation, and global security programs (i.e., ISF 10+2, EEI, etc.)
  • Experience enhancing international trade compliance programs by driving the implementation of key global policies and procedures, communication strategies, and key compliance-related controls
