    Job Description

    The Technician - Electrical will work across a variety of functional groups that are directly involved in engineering, project development, maintenance, and production. An inventive, problem-solving position that is capable of working through technical challenges and employing pragmatic solutions, maintaining, repairing and overhauling LUK maintained vehicles, other rail vehicles and associated equipment specifically wherein technical knowledge, skills and competence for the maintenance of electrical systems is required to be performed in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, specifications, and instructions.

     

    This will involve working to a 7-day roster which shall include afternoons/nights, bank holidays and weekend shifts as required.

     

    ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

    Functional & Technical

    • Install, maintain, modify and repair of electrical systems on rail vehicles and associated machinery, plant and equipment in accordance with specifications and to an acceptable standard.
    • Carry out other maintenance, repair, overhaul and manufacturing activity on rail vehicles as required.
    • Use, understand, interpret and apply information from electrical schematics.
    • Investigate faults and failures, identify trends and perform effective repairs, efficiently and with minimal disruption to other activities.
    • Inspect and test components of electrical systems.
    • Read and accurately interpret drawings, technical specifications and work instructions.
    • Work in accordance with applicable targets.
    • Maintain general knowledge of working systems and variations.
    • Carry out assessment of material requiring overhaul by third parties.
    • Ensure good housekeeping (cleanliness and tidiness of working environment).
    • Demonstrate a pro-active approach to Continuous Improvements initiatives.
    • Undertake maintenance, repair and overhaul work at remote locations.

    Compliance

    • Work in accordance with company systems and procedures.
    • Comply with all safety, quality and environmental systems and responsibilities, including OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001 & ISO 14001.
    • Participate in competency assessment programs as required.
    • Recording full, complete and accurate details of work performed.

    Strategic and Functional Processes

    • Achieve required levels of productivity, quality and delivery.
    • Work at remote locations as required.
    • Provide on-call support as required.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:  GCSE Maths & English Grade C/4 (or equivalent).

                        NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in relevant electrical/technical subject.

    Experience: Minimum 6 months experience in a similar/relevant Traction & Rolling Stock engineering                                   environment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:   Recognised Train the Trainer/Assessor Qualification (holds or is willing to work towards).

    Experience: To hold/be assessment as competent in relevant/appropriate Loram UK competence                                          management modules or equivalent.
