Job Description

Locus Robotics is seeking a Principal Lead for Autonomous Manipulation, AI and Robotics for its Advanced Products Group (APG). APG is a forward-thinking cross-functional group that evaluates product opportunities with 2–4-year roadmaps using emerging technologies. In this role, the Principal Lead will architect robotics manipulation solutions from the ground up and help form a high-performance team, deploying innovative technology to address real-world logistics challenges. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in the fields of AI, Decision Making and Control, Machine Vision and Robotic Manipulation. 

This role is based out of our Wilmington, MA office.  Alternate locations include Kitchener, ON area or remote in the contiguous US or Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect frameworks for advanced manipulation applications, building a team and planning technical roadmaps.    

  • Plan and build models and supporting architectures for decision-making, path planning, and grasping.  

  • Develop and implement innovative approaches to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and safety of robotic manipulation. 

  • Evaluate and assist potential partners in the implementation of external tools and technologies.  

  • Provide input to scope requirements and feasibility for future robotic applications.   

  • Build and iterate prototype designs to incrementally improve performance. 

  • Help key stakeholders understand the performance and limitations of AI Systems.  

  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to ensure a successful path to product deployment.   

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Robotics, Engineering, or related field or master's degree with 10+ Years of industry experience). 

  • 7+ years of experience with physical machine learning applications such as robot perception, grasping, manipulation, and path planning.  

  • Experience working in C++ and Python, ROS and Linux environments. 

  • Expertise in AI Frameworks deployed on edge devices such as TensorFlow or Caffe.   

  • Experience with project management and team leadership.   

  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and documentation skills.  

  • Confidence and experience to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment.
