#136008 - Product Designer - Authentication & Account Security

  • Contract

Company Description

We are seeking a hands-on Product Designer to create and ship authentication, account-management, and account-security experiences across web and mobile surfaces. This role owns small-to-mid scoped initiatives from problem framing and exploration through validation, engineering-ready specifications, implementation quality assurance, and launch, while partnering with senior designers on larger efforts.

Enterprise experience strongly preferred.

Job Description

  • Own end-to-end product design for defined authentication and account-management initiatives.
  • Frame problems, explore concepts, iterate with partners, and deliver engineering-ready specifications.
  • Audit and map current sign-up, sign-in, routing, account, and security-settings experiences.
  • Identify inconsistencies and seams across related identity and account flows.
  • Design complex, multi-path experiences that respond to user and account conditions.
  • Produce rapid MVP explorations for experimental work.
  • Deliver responsive web and mobile-web designs with complete empty, loading, error, edge-case, and recovery states.
  • Create redlines, interaction details, and clear implementation documentation for engineering.
  • Conduct lightweight usability validation and draft interface copy for content review.
  • Provide design quality assurance through implementation and launch.
  • Participate in engineering scoping and refinement, reasoning about authentication, verification, session states, routing logic, and system dependencies.
  • Work within an established design system and extend it responsibly when new patterns are needed.

Qualifications

Must-Have Skills

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong product and visual design craft, including end-to-end web and mobile application flows. Applications without a portfolio will be considered incomplete.
  • Product-design experience shipping production software, ideally involving account, onboarding, or other flow-based product experiences.
  • Experience designing, shipping, and iterating in close partnership with product management and engineering.
  • Proven ability to design complex, multi-path flows that branch according to user or account conditions.
  • Thoughtful handling of edge cases, error and recovery states, accessibility, and user control across connected surfaces.
  • Strong UX principles and the ability to translate business and technical requirements into clear design direction.
  • Experience working within and responsibly extending an established design system.
  • Mastery of Figma, solid prototyping skills, and experience producing clear engineering-handoff documentation.
  • Clear communication and a collaborative, low-ego approach to cross-functional work.
  • Balanced strength in systems thinking and visual execution.
  • Technical literacy to reason directly with engineers about authentication flows, verification and session states, routing logic, system dependencies, and error handling. Coding is not required.
  • 3-5 years of UX design experience. Portfolio evidence and case-study depth matter more than tenure; candidates must show shipped, engineering-implemented work on complex multi-path flows and the ability to operate independently on defined initiatives.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with authentication, identity, account security, or other trust-related product experiences.
  • Experience designing sign-up, sign-in, onboarding, settings, or preferences interfaces.
  • A data-informed approach using research, experimentation, and product metrics.
  • Experience running lightweight usability testing and drafting interface copy with research and content partners.
  • Experience designing for international audiences or regulated requirements.
  • A portfolio case study showing an authentication, verification, or account-lifecycle flow redesigned end to end with measurable friction or conversion outcomes, or comparable workflow mapping and systems reasoning.
  • Prior contractor experience with a record of quickly learning complex product areas and operating independently.
  • Experience identifying inconsistencies across identity or account surfaces and driving cross-flow alignment.
  • Thoughtful use of AI for exploration, prototyping, research synthesis, or documentation while preserving human judgment.
  • A bias toward operationally useful artifacts that engineers can build from.

Required Tools & Platforms

  • Figma.
  • An established or enterprise-scale design system.
  • Prototyping and engineering-handoff workflows.
  • Jira, Confluence, Slack, or equivalent collaboration tools.

Location, Time & Engagement

  • Candidates must be based in the United States.
  • US Central Time working-hour coverage is required.
  • This is a remote contract engagement at 40 hours per week.
  • The anticipated engagement runs through March 31, 2027.
  • This is not currently a contract-to-hire opportunity.
