Upwork has partnered with an enterprise client to identify Maltese-speaking freelancers for an AI training initiative focused on improving next-generation speech recognition technology.

This project involves producing high-quality, verbatim transcriptions in Maltese, directly contributing to the development of advanced AI voice systems.

As a Transcription Specialist, you will listen to audio recordings in Maltese and create precise, fully detailed transcripts. This includes capturing not only what is said, but how it is said—ensuring accuracy, context, and nuance.

You will work on both single-speaker and multi-speaker recordings, with varying levels of complexity. Clear instructions and ongoing feedback will be provided to ensure quality standards are met.

• Transcribe audio recordings in Maltese with high accuracy (verbatim)
• Capture filler words, repetitions, and speech patterns
• Label speakers in multi-speaker recordings (2–8 participants)
• Insert precise timestamps (within 500ms accuracy)
• Annotate non-speech elements (e.g., laughter, background noise, unclear audio)
• Follow detailed project guidelines and quality standards
• Maintain consistent productivity and reliability

• Native-level fluency in Maltese, including regional accents and informal speech
• Strong listening and comprehension skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to produce true verbatim transcriptions
• Experience in transcription, annotation, or linguistics is a plus
• Comfortable using browser-based tools (training provided)
• Reliable internet connection
• Access to a laptop or desktop (no mobile devices)

• Flexible workload with approximately 4 hours/day available
