Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Visitor Services and Interpretation, the Senior Project Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating visitor programming initiatives on behalf of the Parliament of Canada. This may include projects related to interpretive content, guided tours, multimedia, exhibits, online and print resources, promotions and/or visitor services and events.  

The incumbent performs the following duties:

  • Proposes, develops, implements and evaluates interpretive and programming content for onsite visitor programs and services, as well as related public programming initiatives.
  • Drafts project documentation, including but not limited to project management plans, interpretive plans, requests for proposal, evaluation plans, communications plans and partnership agreements.
  • Supports their manager by proposing and monitoring project budgets, overseeing the work of external contractors, drafting procurement documents and leading the evaluation and selection of contractors to facilitate program development.
  • Serves as a reference and mentor for junior team members by providing guidance, coaching and mentoring; reviewing and providing input on draft documents; facilitating knowledge transfer and supporting problem resolution.

Develops and coordinates quality control processes for public-facing content and establishes standardized review processes and guidelines to ensure the consistency and accuracy of interpretive and programming content.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university that is relevant to the duties of the position OR an acceptable combination of relevant education, work experience and training.

Experience:

  • Significant* experience in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of visitor programs, services and resources in a heritage, cultural or educational setting.
  • Significant* experience in developing interpretive and/or educational content for public audiences, including writing for different demographics and using different media.
  • Significant* experience preparing procurement documentation, including statements of work, and in managing the work of external contractors.
  • Experience drafting planning documents, reports and/or briefing materials for partners and senior stakeholders. 
  • Experience working in a front-line visitor services environment.
  • Experience drafting promotional and/or communications plans.

*Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience or knowledge normally associated with the performance of a wide range of related activities, acquired over a minimum period of five (5) years.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, tools and practices.
  • Knowledge of evaluation methodologies, tools and practices.
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices in the fields of heritage interpretation, public outreach and visitor experience. 
  • Knowledge of Canadian and parliamentary history, Canada’s system of government, parliamentary institutions and processes, the roles and responsibilities of parliamentarians and the art and architecture of the Parliament Buildings.

Asset Criteria:

  • Knowledge of the Accessible Canada Act and its applications for visitor programs.
  • Knowledge of Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) and its applications for visitor programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing staff training programs.
  • Experience coordinating the work of junior team members and providing feedback on their outputs.

Conditions of Employment:
