About the Role

We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to join Lendi Group and provide practical, commercially focused legal support across our diverse and evolving business.

Working as part of our Legal team, you’ll gain broad exposure across mortgage broking, lending, buyer’s agent services, franchising, technology, data and AI-enabled initiatives. You’ll partner with teams across the Group to navigate legal and regulatory matters, manage risk and support new products, projects and business initiatives.

Job Description

  • Partner with the business: Provide clear, practical legal advice that helps teams navigate legal and regulatory requirements and make informed decisions.
  • Support commercial agreements: Draft, review and negotiate supplier, technology, distribution, service and other commercial contracts.
  • Support new initiatives: Provide legal input into new products, projects, business initiatives, regulatory change and improvements to systems and services.
  • Support AI and innovation: Advise on legal, regulatory, contractual and privacy considerations relating to AI-enabled tools, data and emerging technology.
  • Navigate regulatory requirements: Provide advice across areas such as consumer credit, AML/CTF, competition and consumer law, franchising, real estate licensing, privacy, employment and intellectual property.
  • Support customer matters: Provide legal guidance on complex or escalated customer complaints and other customer-related legal matters.
  • Manage legal and regulatory risk: Help identify emerging risks and support the business in meeting its legal, regulatory and policy obligations.
  • Improve how we work: Contribute to Legal team processes, templates and tools that make legal support more efficient, consistent and scalable.
  • Work with external advisers: Support the engagement and management of external counsel where specialist advice is required.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • Legal experience gained in-house and/or within private practice, ideally within financial services, lending, fintech, technology or another regulated industry.
  • A law degree and current practising certificate.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to turn complex legal issues into clear, practical advice.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify legal and regulatory risks and work collaboratively with stakeholders to find practical solutions.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and confidence working with stakeholders across different areas of a business.
  • A proactive, organised and collaborative approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience within mortgage broking, lending, banking, fintech or financial services.
  • Knowledge of Australian consumer credit regulation and the NCCP framework.
  • Exposure to franchising, real estate, privacy, AML/CTF or competition and consumer law.
  • Experience advising on AI, data, digital products or technology-related matters.
  • Exposure to customer complaints, regulatory matters or working with external legal advisers.
