Company Description
Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor.
We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders.
We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income.
L&G Asset Management is one of Europe’s largest asset managers, providing clients and partners with complex, responsible investment solutions, across public and private markets. As a global investor, we are present where our clients most need us – from Hong Kong and Singapore, to Chicago and major European financial hubs.
Created by combining our investment management (LGIM) and asset origination (LGC) capabilities, our Asset Management division works with our Institutional Retirement and Retail divisions to benefit our clients and customers – which include individual savers, pension scheme members and global institutions – and deliver enhanced shareholder returns.
Joining us means becoming part of a market-leading team, with capabilities across the full spectrum of asset classes, with an enduring commitment to responsible investment and creating long-term, sustainable value for our clients and partners.
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and inclusive strategic leader to shape and deliver the corporate strategy for our global Asset Management business. This role reports into our Chief Strategy & Product Officer within the Asset Management business.
Working closely with senior leaders and colleagues across the wider organisation, you will translate long-term ambitions into clear priorities and disciplined execution. You will bring together perspectives from across investment capabilities, markets, channels and functions, while providing constructive challenge and trusted strategic advice.
You will also lead and develop a high-performing strategy team, creating an environment in which different perspectives are valued and colleagues are supported to do their best work.
What you’ll be doing:
- Delivering the corporate strategy for our global Asset Management business and ensuring this is executed at pace
- Ensuring our strategy remains aligned with wider organisational priorities, financial parameters and long-term ambitions
- Translating strategic goals into clear plans, measurable outcomes and transparent reporting
- Partnering with senior leaders and subject-matter experts to connect investment, market, channel and functional strategies
- Developing corporate development priorities and supporting the assessment and delivery of organic and inorganic growth opportunities
- Building strong partnerships with Finance, M&A, business intelligence and market insight colleagues, both within Asset Management but also our other business divisions and the Group
- Providing strategic advice, constructive challenge and practical support on priority initiatives and emerging opportunities
- Leading, developing and empowering a diverse global strategy team while fostering inclusion, collaboration, integrity and adaptability
Who we’re looking for:
- Significant experience in strategy consulting, corporate strategy, M&A, corporate finance or a related discipline, ideally within asset management or a relevant financial services environment
- Strong strategic and commercial judgement, with the ability to identify the implications and practical actions arising from complex information
- Experience of influencing and aligning senior stakeholders across different functions, geographies and areas of expertise
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for different audiences
- Strong financial and corporate finance capabilities, combined with a disciplined approach to prioritisation, risk and delivery
- Experience of leading, supporting and developing high-performing teams, ideally across more than one location
- The ability to remain effective through periods of pressure, balancing competing priorities while collaborating and delegating appropriately
- A commitment to integrity, discretion, inclusive leadership and achieving positive outcomes for clients, customers and colleagues
Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
- The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
- Generous pension contribution
- A company car allowance
- Life assurance
- Healthcare Plan (permanent employees only)
- At least 30 days holiday, plus public holidays. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
- Competitive family leave
- Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only)
- There are many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
- We’re creating net‑zero carbon workplaces by 2030 by investing in our sustainable, modern offices across the UK, all designed to bring people together and elevate the in‑person experience
