Job Description
We are currently seeking a Product Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design consumer products that meet functional, aesthetic, safety and cost requirements while supporting cross-functional engineering and manufacturing needs. The position contributes technical expertise throughout the product development cycle, including concept creation, prototyping and durability evaluation. It involves collaborating across teams, clearly communicating design intent and working with diverse materials and modalities to deliver reliable, high-quality product solutions. Applicants should be proficient in creating and modifying 3-D designs in SolidWorks (or a similar CAD package), including assemblies and detailed drawings. The ideal candidate also has hands-on experience supporting manufacturing activities, such as validating vendors, assisting with assembly SOPs, performing in-process inspections and helping resolve production issues.
A day on the job looks like this:
- Designing consumer products in SolidWorks; creating functional, safe, durable and aesthetically appropriate designs within cost targets
- Supporting quality engineering activities by incorporating development, hardware and manufacturing requirements into designs
- Participating in product development meetings, providing design input and collaborating with engineering, manufacturing and project teams
- Assisting in providing detailed responses for product and technical requests
- Building proof-of-concept models and prototypes using in-house 3-D printers and other tools
- Sharing design concepts with team members during product reviews and group discussions
- Working collaboratively across departments to maintain effective internal relationships and promote teamwork
- Performing stress analyses of components to support durability assessments
Qualifications
Got the skills and experience? Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- EIT certification/PE license is preferred
- CSWP license is preferred
- Bilingual ability is a plus (Mandarin and/or Vietnamese)
- 4 years of experience in design engineering
- 2 years of experience in a similar position
- 2 years of experience contributing to tasks or small subprojects
- Proficient in creating and modifying 3-D designs in SolidWorks (or similar CAD package), including assemblies and detailed drawings
- Working knowledge of 3-D modeling techniques for aesthetic and functional parts
- Experience selecting and specifying basic materials such as plastics, metals, wood, textiles and foams with guidance from senior engineers when needed
- General understanding of a variety of manufacturing and production methods
- Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing activities, such as validating vendors, assisting with assembly SOPs, performing in-process inspections and helping resolve production issues
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment in routine, day-to-day decision-making with moderate support from a manager
- Ability to assess solution implications and examine issues from multiple perspectives while adhering to company policies
- Ability to communicate clearly and listen openly, tailoring messages and responses to the audience
- Ability to collaborate productively with individuals from diverse perspectives and backgrounds, fostering a “One Lakeshore” approach
- Ability to show determination in overcoming obstacles and setbacks, especially when facing new situations, and a drive to continuously seek improvement
- Ability to take initiative to learn, practice and apply new knowledge and skills
- Ability to consistently deliver results under moderate guidance
- Familiarity with structural packing principles is a plus
- Familiarity with Furniture line a plus

At Lakeshore, we pay local market wages for employees that reside within Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
For this position, new employees joining Lakeshore who live within Los Angeles and Orange Counties are typically brought into the organization at a salary rate between $82,000- $114,500 depending on relevant experience & skillset.
This range is indicative of projected hiring range. The annual base compensation will take into account each candidate's relevant experience, location, and skillset.
