Job Description
We have an opening for an Engineering/Scientific Coordinator. You will be responsible for providing advanced technical and administrative oversight to manage experimental workflow and acquisition and fabrication of complex electronics instrumentation, data acquisition systems, mechanical equipment, hardware, and hazardous materials for various projects. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate, supporting multiple programs within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) and Global Security (GS) Directorates.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
You will
- Provide advanced technical oversight for multiple projects and/or activities with frequently changing requirements and priorities.
- Maintain appropriate records and summaries to support project needs.
- Provide award and delivery status to supervisors and customers; anticipate and reconcile supply problems, including technical factors affecting critical milestones.
- Collaborate with and provide technical direction to designers, technicians, machinists, engineers, scientists, internal organizations, outside suppliers, and vendors on large and small complex projects, sometimes involving hazardous materials.
- Independently support the acquisition and fabrication of general electronics instrumentation, hardware and data acquisition systems, mechanical equipment and hardware activities at Livermore and other off-site locations.
- Support designers and engineers in reviewing drawings, proposed fabrication processes, pricing, and delivery schedules.
- Process complex to highly complex internal fabrication packages through LLNL fabrication facilities.
- Provide Technical Release Representative (TRR) services requiring advanced knowledge of purchasing requirements and regulations.
- Strictly adhere to laboratory safety and security guidelines, and regulations, and perform all assignments in accordance with Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H), security, and business practice requirements and policies.
- Coordinate programmatic equipment maintenance activities including tracking vendor maintenance subcontracts, scheduling routine and non-routine service visits, ensuring proper vendor badging and training for onsite access.
- Prepare technical procurement packages for mechanical fabrications including specifications and statements of work (SOW), as well as quality assurance and inspection requirements.
- Act as Responsible Individual (RI) on Procured Services Work Control Documents and ensure on-site work is authorized, approved, and released prior to work start.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Significant experience managing, tracking and coordinating workflow with competing priorities.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of conventional manufacturing and fabrication techniques, electronics instrumentation, hardware and data acquisition systems, and mechanical equipment and hardware.
- Advanced written verbal communication, feedback, and presentation communication skills sufficient to develop and report data, and to work successfully in a highly collaborative environment.
- Advanced experience in Microsoft office applications, such as Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to acquire and maintain Technical Release Representative (TRR) certification.
- Advanced skills, knowledge, and demonstrated abilities in procurement and coordination of materials and equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of fabrication alternatives, supplier selections and materials.
- Significant experience working independently and as a team member with effective problem-solving skills.
- Significant experience managing, tracking and coordinating workflow with competing priorities while meeting specific programmatic technical and reporting requirements.
Qualifications We Desire
- Advanced level knowledge and understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Advanced knowledge and use of SolidWorks to develop component models and technical drawings.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of machine tool technology, test equipment, data acquisition and instrumentation.
- Advanced knowledge of LLNL purchasing, procurement, and organizational procedures.
- Certified as an LLNL Explosive Handler or equivalent training for handling and testing explosives.
- Familiarity with the Department of Energy (DOE) Explosives Safety Standard.
Pay Range
$125,310 - $153,444 Annually
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
