Job Description

At LGC, we are seeking a dedicated Operations Manager, Lab Services to join our world-class team. This role collaborates with various teams in Commercial, Bioinformatics, R&D, Process Development, and Quality.

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the lab services team that delivers projects with high quality, within budget, and on time. In partnership with site HR and operational leadership, this individual is encouraged to foster a positive work environment and a culture of ownership and accountability.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to capably perform each of the following essential functions:

  • Provide overall leadership to respective team in the areas of safety, efficiency, quality control, cost, equipment, and engagement to support the organization’s commercial and operational activities
  • Manage direct and indirect reports' personnel activities: budgeting, staffing, training, evaluations, mentoring, coaching, and goal setting tied to business goals.
  • Coordinate lab operations personnel development, group structure, and resources to support business goals and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report key performance indicators for team(s) under direct remit
  • Ensure high-quality data delivery and effective communication to customers, internal or external
  • Collaborate with functional leaders to develop, implement, and review strategies improving team efficiency, laboratory service levels, quality, and operational cost
  • Coordinate the troubleshooting and optimization of experimental procedures and conditions
  • Collaborate with customers and team members spanning various functions, sites, and regions to coordinate successful execution of operational projects
  • Ensure protocols and/or processes are in place that support efficient, effective, scalable, and repeatable lab operations, following designated standards and quality management systems
  • Adhere to company Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) policy
  • Perform other duties as required, or assigned by management, to meet business needs

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences or a related technical field, like molecular biology, microbiology, or biochemistry, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in operations leadership within a manufacturing or life sciences organization.
  • Knowledge of next generation sequencing (NGS) techniques in a lab setting, whether in a commercial or academic environment, is essential.
  • Experience using scientific technologies and operational processes to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity in service delivery is necessary.
  • A track record of successfully leading, motivating, and developing staff in a fast-paced, demanding environment is important.
  • Knowledge and experience in risk management and change management are needed.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree or equivalent experience in the life sciences or related technical field
  • Familiarity with ISO13485/ISO9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics pipelines/operations
  • Prior experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and ERP systems
  • Experience interpreting data analysis results from NGS data workflows
