Job Description
We are hiring an experienced Site Outage Manager for our Skelton Grange Energy from Waste plant in Leeds. You will then move on to our Rivenhall, Essex location and then various other locations of ours following these.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate planned and unplanned plant outages, maintenance activities, and operational interventions across multiple project locations, ensuring all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with operational, contractual, budgetary, and schedule requirements while maintaining flexibility to support extended hours, weekends, and site-based activities as required.
- Provide strong operational leadership across plant activities, ensuring all personnel, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and service providers are aligned with plant objectives, operating requirements, and HSEQ expectations, while supporting recruitment, training, competency development, and workforce planning to maintain a high-performing and compliant operational team.
- Drive a proactive safety culture by ensuring all activities are executed in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements, including the review and implementation of RAMS, safe systems of work, contractor management, risk mitigation measures, and intervention where unsafe conditions or behaviours could compromise personnel, plant integrity, or project delivery.
- Oversee outage preparation and execution activities including coordination with engineering teams for documentation and materials, planning of inspections and NDT activities, management of welfare facilities and scaffolding requirements, coordination with clients and contractors for inspections and sign-offs, and ensuring effective demobilisation and close-out of all outage activities and punch list items.
- Support continuous improvement and operational excellence by implementing structured problem-solving methods, progressing technical and commercial change requests, monitoring deviations and claims, delivering lessons learned feedback, maintaining clear communication with site and project management teams, and ensuring all commissioning, installation, testing, and maintenance activities are completed in accordance with project and plant operational standards.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering with proven experience as an Outage Manager, Plant Operations Manager, or similar leadership role within the energy sector or other large-scale industrial process environments, combined with strong contractor management and site coordination experience across complex maintenance and outage activities.
- Demonstrable leadership capability in Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) management, with a strong understanding of relevant legal obligations, site safety practices, permit systems, and operational risk management, supported by recognised site safety qualifications such as SMSTS, SCC, or equivalent certification.
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical plant systems, industrial maintenance practices, and applicable international and national engineering standards, with the ability to lead safe and compliant outage execution across pressure systems, rotating equipment, utilities, and balance of plant infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of key industry legislation and directives relevant to industrial mechanical plant operations, including Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), Simple Pressure Vessel Directive, Machinery Directive, and ATEX regulations relating to hazardous areas and equipment compliance.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills with a collaborative and proactive approach, combined with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and operational personnel across fast-paced project environments.
