Our CFO Advisory practice sits within KPMG’s Financial Risk Advisory division and works closely with CFOs and senior finance leaders to address complex accounting, financial and regulatory challenges. We help organisations deliver compliant, commercial outcomes while strengthening finance capability, governance and decision‑making.
Our work spans accounting and regulatory advisory, finance function uplift, data and reporting improvement, and transaction‑related engagements. We are known for our practical, collaborative approach and our ability to work across interconnected services to deliver outcomes that matter.
The Brisbane Team
Our Brisbane CFO Advisory team is collaborative, high‑performing and growing. You’ll work closely with senior leaders locally while being part of a broader national practice. The Queensland market provides exposure to a diverse range of clients and industries, offering strong development opportunities and meaningful client impact early in your career.
The team are in office 3-4 days per week unless on client site. We enjoy heading out for a coffee and KPMG has several fantastic clubs that you can participate in (for socials, running, cycling, yoga and there is even a club for those that love tea).
What You’ll Do
You will have the opportunity to work across different industries, with a preference towards Government and Energy and Utilities, on a range of complex client problems, including:
- Manage the delivery of complex projects. This will include end to end project management, developing key client deliverables, presenting results, and liaising with senior members of the CFOA team, other KPMG teams and our clients
- Support finance teams to develop effective financial and regulatory reporting processes. This includes interpretation of the requirements, analysing and sourcing required data, ensuring the data is effectively governed and establishing processes and controls that will enable high quality reporting to be produced
- Assist our clients design and implement sound governance and control frameworks across their end to end financial and regulatory processes that embeds clear accountability and ownership within their organisations
- Embed robust data governance practices into organisations to support high quality reporting
- Analyse risks and design controls across complex business processes as our clients transform their businesses
- Promote effective decision making using financial tools
- Work in cross divisional teams on pre and post deal finance function set-up engagements, supporting our clients to realise value and synergies from their merger and acquisition activities
- Support our strategic initiatives including developing innovative solutions and taking those solutions to market.
- Helping our team develop and driving growth and opportunities.
Skill and Experience
To be considered for this opportunity, your skills & experience could include:
- Experience in audit, advisory or assurance within professional services, or relevant experience in an industry finance role
- A developing understanding of the AASB framework and/or the Australian regulatory environment
- Experience working effectively within teams and a willingness to coach and support junior colleagues
- A strong foundation in accounting or finance, with a commercial and analytical mindset
- Prior experience in a finance function or leading a large complex finance projects (including understanding of financial systems and processes) is desirable
- Experience of driving sales and growth
- Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured and professional client deliverables
- Curiosity and an enquiring mindset, with a willingness to tackle new and emerging challenges and learn quickly
- The ability to work collaboratively in teams, manage competing priorities and manage senior stakeholders
Qualifications
- CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent)
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or Finance
- Prior experience in a finance function or leading a large complex finance projects (including understanding of financial systems and processes) is desirable
- Experience in leading teams and providing training and guidance to build performance
- Experience of driving sales and growth
