Within this group, KPMG’s China Business Practice plays a pivotal role in advising clients engaging with China across inbound and outbound investment, operations, and structuring. Working closely with our Business & Tax Advisory team and global China network, we support private businesses, family groups, foreign‑invested enterprises and listed companies to operate efficiently and compliantly across borders.
Job Description
This is an opportunity for an experienced professional to step into a Manager role where you will lead client relationships, shape China‑related advisory work, mentor teams, and contribute to the growth of a strategically important practice.
Role Overview
As a Manager, you will take ownership of significant China‑related client engagements, lead project delivery, and act as a trusted advisor to clients with cross‑border tax and business needs. You will balance technical excellence with strong commercial acumen, people leadership, and relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Engagement Leadership
- Manage a portfolio of China‑connected mid‑market and private clients, including:
- Australian businesses investing into or trading with China
- Chinese‑owned or foreign‑invested enterprises operating in Australia
- Family groups, trusts, partnerships, and small listed entities
- Provide high‑quality tax and business advisory services, covering:
- Cross‑border and international tax structuring
- Inbound and outbound investment planning
- Ongoing tax and accounting compliance
- Governance, risk, and regulatory considerations
- Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of client engagements, including scoping, budgeting, resourcing, and quality review.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, including CFOs, business owners, and boards.
China Business Practice Contribution
- Support the growth and positioning of KPMG’s China Business Practice by identifying opportunities arising from China‑related client needs.
- Collaborate with KPMG teams across Australia, China, and the broader global network to deliver integrated solutions.
- Apply strong cross‑cultural understanding to manage stakeholder expectations and drive effective outcomes.
Business Development & Commercial Acumen
- Identify and progress new opportunities within existing and prospective China‑connected clients.
- Support proposals, pitches, and credential presentations.
- Manage engagement economics and contribute to practice revenue and profitability targets.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and mentor consultants and senior consultants, fostering their technical capability and confidence in China‑related work.
- Provide on‑the‑job guidance, formal performance feedback, and career development support.
- Contribute to building sustainable China capability within the wider Business & Tax Advisory team.
Technical Excellence & Thought Leadership
- Stay current on China‑related tax, regulatory, and market developments and translate these into practical client advice.
- Review complex technical work and ensure high standards of quality and risk management.
- Contribute to internal knowledge‑sharing, training, and external thought‑leadership initiatives where appropriate.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience at Manager (or equivalent) level in tax advisory, accounting, or professional services.
- Strong background in international and/or China‑related tax and business advisory.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex engagements and senior client relationships.
- Experience leading and developing high‑performing teams.
- Strong commercial mindset and interest in practice growth.
- Must be fluent in Mandarin
Qualifications
Completed CA/CPA or equivalent qualification.
