Job Description
KPFF Consulting Engineers is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Shared Services team in our Downtown Seattle office.
This role is a key contributor to the day-to-day accounting operations that support the financial health of the firm, with a strong emphasis on accounts payable and month-end close activities. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining accuracy and momentum across high-volume workflows, while also supporting general ledger accounting, tax compliance, and internal reporting.
Beyond core responsibilities, this role supports cross-functional collaboration with Project Cost Accountants and contributes to process improvements across the accounting function. You’ll have the opportunity to build technical expertise, take ownership of your work, and support a team that values accuracy, accountability, and continuous learning.
What You’ll Do
You’ll support the Shared Services Accounting team by contributing to core accounting functions and helping ensure accurate, timely financial information across the organization.
Core Accounting Operations
- Process a high volume of vendor invoices and employee expense reports with accurate general ledger (GL) coding
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and respond to internal and external accounts payable (AP) inquiries
- Assist with check runs, ACH payments, and payment reconciliation processes
- Record customer payments and cash deposits accurately and in a timely manner
- Support accounts receivable (AR) reconciliations and assist with follow-up on outstanding balances
Month-End Close & General Ledger
- Prepare and post journal entries to support month-end and year-end close
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate variances
- Assist in preparing internal financial reports and supporting financial analysis
Taxes & Compliance
- Assist with state and local tax filings, including use tax and B&O tax
- Maintain compliance documentation, registrations, and required licenses
Team Support & Collaboration
- Support and collaborate with Project Cost Accountants on accounting procedures and systems
- Serve as a resource for coding questions and contribute to process improvement efforts
- Assist with onboarding and training efforts, including sharing knowledge and supporting team learning initiatives
- Partner with team members to improve workflows, accuracy, and overall efficiency
Qualifications
Who You Are
You’re a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working across a variety of accounting functions. You take ownership of your work, stay organized in high-volume environments, and are proactive in identifying what needs to get done.
You’re naturally curious, eager to learn, and comfortable asking questions to deepen your understanding. You’re also willing to step in, support others, and contribute to team efforts, whether that’s helping a teammate, sharing knowledge, or improving a process.
Qualifications:
- 3–6 years of experience in a staff or general accounting role, preferably in a high-volume environment
- Working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and reconciliations
- Strong systems skills, including intermediate to advanced Excel (experience with tools like Power Query is a plus)
- Basic understanding of tax concepts (e.g., sales/use tax, B&O tax) is a plus
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through with accuracy
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset

- This is an in-office role based in downtown Seattle with flexible hours between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm

Compensation & Recognition
We provide a competitive base salary that reflects your skills and experience. For candidates with at least 3 years of relevant experience, the typical range is $77,000 - $83,000. In addition, we reward both individual and team achievements with performance-based bonuses at the Reporting Center level.
