Job Description

The Opportunity

The Associate of Athletics and Wellness supports the planning, coordination, and execution of KIPP Columbus’s middle and high school athletics programs and related wellness initiatives. Working closely with the Director of Athletics, the Associate ensures the operational excellence of a growing athletics program that currently includes 16 sports, more than 35 coaches, and over 400 student-athletes across middle and high school.

This role is responsible for managing day-to-day athletic operations including game-day logistics, eligibility tracking, scheduling support, facilities coordination, and communication with coaches, families, and partner schools. The Associate of Athletics and Wellness plays a critical role in ensuring athletic programs operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) requirements and KIPP Columbus policies.

The Associate will also support the development of student wellness initiatives, extracurricular programming, and athletic department operations that promote student engagement, healthy lifestyles, and school pride across campus.

Athletics Operations and Logistics

  • Support the day-to-day operational management of the KIPP Columbus athletics program.
  • Coordinate game-day logistics for middle and high school athletic events, including facility preparation, visiting team communication, and coordination with security and operations teams.

  • Manage and distribute game-day operational information including parking plans, facility access, security coordination, and event staffing.

  • Assist with scheduling athletic contests and maintaining contracts with partner schools and officials.

  • Coordinate transportation logistics for away contests.

  • Assist with planning and scheduling practice times and facility usage across campus.

  • Support seasonal planning and scheduling for upcoming sports seasons.

 

Student-Athlete Eligibility and Compliance

  • Support the athletic department’s compliance with OHSAA and school eligibility requirements.
  • Maintain student-athlete records through systems such as FinalForms.

  • Track completion of required participation documentation including physicals, waivers, and parent consent forms.

  • Support academic eligibility monitoring by coordinating grade checks and eligibility reports.

  • Communicate eligibility updates to coaches and school leaders.

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with OHSAA policies and KIPP Columbus athletic participation requirements.

Game-Day and Event Management

  • Coordinate staffing for home contests including volunteers, scorekeepers, ticketing staff, and event workers.

  • Assist in the preparation and management of athletic contests and campus athletic events.

  • Assist with concessions planning and inventory management for athletic events.

  • Support communication with visiting teams and officials.

  • Ensure appropriate event coverage, safety protocols, and operational readiness during home contests.

Athletic Program Support

  •  Provide operational support to coaches and athletic programming across middle and high school.

  • Support coach onboarding and coordination processes.

  • Assist with communication to coaches regarding schedules, eligibility updates, and operational expectations.

  • Support the organization and administration of team rosters and program documentation.

  • Assist with planning athletic department meetings, communications, and seasonal preparation.

Wellness and Extracurricular Programming

  • Support the development of student wellness initiatives and extracurricular activities.
  • Assist with coordination of wellness programming and athletic enrichment opportunities.

  • Support extracurricular programs connected to the athletics department, including band, cheer, and drill teams.

  • Assist with coordination of youth sports exposure opportunities, clinics, and camps.

  • Support partnerships with external organizations and community programs.

Equipment and Inventory Management

  • Assist with managing athletic equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain inventory records for athletic equipment and supplies.

  • Assist with ordering equipment and monitoring equipment usage.

  • Support facility readiness for practices and events.

General Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the KIPP Columbus team, participating in team meetings, professional development, and school events.

  • Attend athletic events and activities as required

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Experience in athletics administration, coaching, or program coordination preferred

  • Strong organizational and operational management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Familiarity with athletic compliance requirements (OHSAA preferred)

  • Experience working with students and families in school or community environments

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
