Job Description
The KIPP Nurse Manager provides guidance and support to school nurses and schools. The nurse manager oversees school nurse trainings, nursing skills, provides direct patient care, case management of students with chronic health diseases, and support schools to foster a healthy and safe environment for students to reach their optimum educational achievement and wellness.
Position Overview
KIPP Texas Public Schools support students by minimizing barriers to learning that they may experience. KIPP Texas try to ensure that all students have access to school nurse services to meet their physical and mental needs. Reporting to the Senior Director of School Health Services, the Nurse Manager is a member of the Student Culture and Wellness department and will serve as a manager of the school nurse staff. The nurse manager will ensure that the goals of School Health Services are in practice. This position furthers the mission of KIPP Texas by removing health related barriers to education that students may endure and that places them at risk for absenteeism and dropout.
Duties and Responsibilities
Special Knowledge/Skills
Implement School Health Services policies and procedures.
Interpret health information, observations, and assessments of students for recommendations of needed health services at school.
Provide training such as orientation and professional development to school nurse staff.
Use nursing critical thinking skills to problem solve health related inquiries.
Participate in collaborative meetings and make best practice decisions for students with chronic health illnesses and needs.
Work collaboratively with school, regional, and state administrations.
Provide trainings workshops for teachers and faculty on health-related topics.
Collaborate with other departments such as Special Education, Nutrition, and 504 for evaluation and intervention.
Manage ordering, inventory, and budget processes.
Provide direct supervision and support to school nurse staff, including goal setting and progress monitoring of performance.
Able to respond quickly using critical thinking skills when triaging staff, students, and visitors.
Experience in providing care to patients with a history of seizures and providing rescue care post seizure.
Have knowledge and/or experience of caring for patients with diabetes, giving insulin, and giving rescue medication.
Have knowledge and/or experience of caring for patients with gastrostomy tube feedings and care.
Have knowledge and/or experience of caring for patients with a tracheostomy and suctioning.
Have knowledge and/or experience of caring for a patient needing to have urinary catheterization.
Must have knowledge and/or experience in following physician orders to administer medications by Oral, Sublingual, Buccal, Rectal, Intramuscular, and Subcutaneous Routes.
Have knowledge of CPR /First Aid/Healthcare Provider
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Proactively collects and manages confidential student information from clinic staff as required for state reports and submits to Senior Director of School Health Services
Analyze data of students with chronic health illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, seizures etc.
Follow-up with physicians to clarify orders for medications, procedures, and treatments for students that are required during school hours.
Initiate care plans and emergency care plans.
Attend ARDs for clinic coordinators and LVNs for support to interpret health care needs of students needed during school hours.
Able to travel to schools to manage and support nurses, students, and staff.
Qualifications
Education and Knowledge
Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in Texas - REQUIRED
Must have a minimum of 4 years of direct patient care experience.
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification
Understanding of child growth and development
Excellent interpersonal skills; Experience collaborating with team members.
Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative.
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities
Proven written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Proficiency in using computers, printers, copy machines, and fax machines.
Able to walk, run, and bend.
Able to pick up 20 lbs.
Preferred but not required
MS nursing degree or higher
Knowledge of school health and school nursing practice
Experience working with children with disabilities.
Qualified UDCA trainer
Work Environment:
School-based staff: Ability to move about inside the classroom, school and campus. Able to operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand and observe details at close range.

Compensation & Benefits
The starting salary for this position is $69k and placement in the salary range is commensurate upon experience and internal equity.
